Best DIY Spice Mixes & Seasoning Blends
Store-bought spice mixes and seasoning blends are helpful in a pinch, but they often contain MSG and other preservatives. Also, with the price of inflation, they can cost you a pretty penny!
This year I've decided to swap to making my spice and seasoning blends from scratch, and you can too. You won't believe how easy they are to recreate at home without any of the unhealthy additives!

1. Burger Seasoning
Wave goodbye to boring burgers because this seasoning is a total game-changer. It's sweet and smoky with a little cayenne pepper to balance the brown sugar.
This seasoning will taste great on any type of burger! I've used it on everything from blue cheese burgers to egg burgers and the results are always delicious.
2. Breakfast Sausage Seasoning
This seasoning is just the thing to add a punch of flavor to your breakfast recipes. You aren't limited to using it on sausage by any means, it is also great in casseroles, breakfast hashes, & so much more.
3. Blackened Seasoning
This zesty blend of chili powders, herbs, and spices will be a new favorite if you are a fan of Cajun or Creole cooking. It's particularly delicious on fish like blackened Mahi Mahi or blackened cod, but it's also great on chicken.
4. Pork Roast Seasoning
This pork roast seasoning is simple yet flavorful and will work on any pork recipe, not just roasts. I love it on pork ribeye roast and air fryer pork loin chops.
5. Poultry Seasoning

If you're a regular here, you know I love meatloaf recipes. This is my go-to seasoning blend for meatloaf in all of its different varieties.
15. Chicken Seasoning
The base recipe for this chicken seasoning includes all the classic herbs and spices you would usually pair with chicken: basil, rosemary, thyme, paprika, and garlic powder. However, there are plenty of optional add-ins so you can customize your seasoning to your liking!
You can practically use this seasoning on any chicken recipe.

A zesty and robust seasoning that adds a punch of flavor to anything it's sprinkled on. Cajun seasoning is just as delicious on grilled alligator bites or fried chicken as it is on Cajun french fries and seafood!

This homemade steak seasoning is delicious on any cut of beef! Not only that, but it also makes extra tasty bison burgers and venison burgers too.
18. Corned Beef Seasoning Mix
With this easy seasoning blend, you can make your own corned beef brine at home! Then you can turn your tasty corned beef into even tastier corned beef and cabbage.
19. Chili Seasoning
You can make competition-worthy chili at home with this flavorful chili seasoning blend. Try it in my chili con carne (or my Texas chili if you don't like to include beans).
20. Garam Masala Seasoning Mix
Garam masala is an aromatic spice blend that is great for Indian cuisine. It is fabulous in butter chicken or any kind of curry.
21. Taco Seasoning
More often than not, I use this taco seasoning in recipes that aren't tacos. It adds that classic Mexican flavor to everything from walking taco casserole to Doritos taco salad.
22. Brisket Dry Rub
For a juicy and incredibly flavorful brisket, this brisket dry rub is my seasoning of choice. The flavors are well-balanced and the seasoning lends itself well to making burnt ends from the brisket point, too!
23. BBQ Chicken Rub
A sweet and smokey dry rub that will take all of your BBQ grilling recipes to the next level. Seriously, try it on some baked chicken drumsticks and you'll never want them any other way.
24. Prime Rib Rub
Your family is going to notice when your holiday prime rib roast goes from 'just okay' to downright delicious! This dry rub is versatile enough to be used on any kind of beef. So don't worry you don't have to eat prime rib regularly for this seasoning to come in handy.

A sensational blend of herbs, spices, and just a little sugar, that perfectly complements the natural flavors of pork. Once I tried it on a baked pork tenderloin, I knew this is one dry rub I need to keep on hand.

34. Herbes de Provence
It may not be a 'pantry staple' but herbes de Provence is a great blend of aromatic dried herbs to keep on hand. Particularly if you are a fan of French cooking.

Homemade Spice Mixes and Seasoning Blends: Corned Beef Seasoning Mix (+More Great DIY Spices!)
Ingredients
- 2 bay leaves
- 12 whole peppercorns
- ½ tablespoon mustard seeds
- ½ tablespoon coriander seeds
- 8 allspice berries
- 8 whole cloves
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
- ½ teaspoon dill seed
- ½ teaspoon star anise seeds
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 cardamom pods
- 1 cinnamon stick (broken into at least two pieces)
Instructions
- Combine all seasoning mix ingredients for immediate use. Use to brine corned beef or to cook (oven roasted, slow cooker, or pressure cooker) your 3-4 lb brisket portion.
- Store unused spice blend in an airtight container.
