Best DIY Spice Mixes & Seasoning Blends

Store-bought spice mixes and seasoning blends are helpful in a pinch, but they often contain MSG and other preservatives. Also, with the price of inflation, they can cost you a pretty penny!

This year I've decided to swap to making my spice and seasoning blends from scratch, and you can too. You won't believe how easy they are to recreate at home without any of the unhealthy additives!

This pork roast seasoning is simple yet flavorful and will work on any pork recipe, not just roasts. I love it on pork ribeye roast and air fryer pork loin chops.

Ingredients
 

  • 2 bay leaves
  • 12 whole peppercorns
  • ½ tablespoon mustard seeds
  • ½ tablespoon coriander seeds
  • 8 allspice berries
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
  • ½ teaspoon dill seed
  • ½ teaspoon star anise seeds
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick (broken into at least two pieces)

(Note: 2x or 3x only changes the ingredient list)

Instructions
 

  • Combine all seasoning mix ingredients for immediate use. Use to brine corned beef or to cook (oven roasted, slow cooker, or pressure cooker) your 3-4 lb brisket portion.
  • Store unused spice blend in an airtight container.
