Garam Masala differs from region to region, but these base ingredients will help you out with your Indian food recipes.

Garam Masala is used in popular Indian dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala, Murgh Makhani (butter chicken), and quick and easy Leftover Curry Turkey. Additionally, it can also kick your basic cupcake, gingerbread, muffin, or applesauce into the realm of fantastic!

    🥘 Ingredients

This quick and easy Garam Masala seasoning mix recipe includes cumin, coriander, black pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and cloves.

    • 2 teaspoon Ground Cumin
    • 1 teaspoon Ground Coriander
    • 1 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
    • ¾ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
    • ½ teaspoon Ground Cardamom
    • ½ teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
    • ¼ teaspoon Ground Cloves

*Be sure to see the free printable recipe card below for ingredients, exact amounts & instructions with tips!*

    🔪 Step-By-Step Instructions

Simply mix your ground ingredients in a bowl and store any unused portion in an airtight container and in a cabinet that is cool and dry.

    1. Add all spices (cumin, coriander, black pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and cloves) in a bowl and mix together.
    2. Store in an airtight container and keep it in a cool, dry place. Your spices will have a varying shelf life depending on when they were originally packaged.

Typically, these ingredients are roasted and ground up in a mortar and pestle but this quick version works in a pinch.

Also, when seasoning Indian dishes use your garam masala seasoning toward the end of the cooking process for a more authentic flavor. Instead use whole cinnamon sticks, cloves, cardamom pods, etc (I also use bay leaves) and remove them before adding the ground seasoning.
