Classic Italian dressing is always a household staple, as it pairs well with many types of salad. However, sometimes, I'm in the mood for a dressing that boasts all the same flavors but is creamier than a vinaigrette.

This creamy dressing checks all the boxes, and you'll want to use it on every salad for the foreseeable future.

You could skip the traditional salad, as it makes an excellent spread for sandwiches, a tasty veggie dip, or a tangy pasta salad.

🥘 Ingredients

Tall image showing the ingredients needed to make the Italian dressing, with labels on each ingredient.
  • Mayonnaise - I recommend using Duke's or Hellman's Best Foods for store-bought mayo. Of course, homemade mayonnaise is an excellent upgrade. You can swap it for Greek yogurt if you don't want to use mayonnaise.
  • Red Wine Vinegar - Adds just the right amount of tanginess.
  • Sugar - You'll want a small amount of white granulated sugar to balance the flavor and add a hint of sweetness.
  • Seasonings - Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes if you want a little kick.

🔪 How To Make Italian Dressing

Preparing this dressing is as easy as it gets, requiring no cooking. You will need a food processor or blender and measuring utensils.

This recipe will make about 12 servings, but this can vary greatly depending on how much dressing you portion out per salad.

Mix The Salad Dressing

Step 1: Add your ingredients. In your food processor or blender, add all ingredients (1 cup (224 grams) of mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar, 1 tablespoon of sugar, ¾ teaspoon of Italian seasoning, ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder, salt, and onion powder, ⅛ teaspoon of ground black pepper, and the optional pinch of crushed red pepper flakes).

Step 2: Blend. Blend until the mixture is smooth.

Step 3: Use. Use immediately or store for later.

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • Skip the mayo. You can easily make this creamy Italian dressing with no mayonnaise by swapping it out for plain Greek yogurt.
  • Use high-quality ingredients. Use full-fat mayonnaise for the best flavor.
  • Chill. Letting your dressing chill in the fridge for a day before serving gives the flavors time to meld.
  • Store for later. This dressing can be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Give it a good shake or stir before serving.
