    • Onion Powder - 2 tablespoons.
    • Dried Oregano - 2 tablespoons.
    • Garlic Powder - 2 tablespoons.

*Be sure to see the recipe card below for ingredients, amounts & instructions!*

🔪 How To Make Creole Seasoning

Making this spice blend is as simple as combining the ingredients. You just need an airtight container for storage, you can even mix it in the same container by closing the lid and shaking it up!

This recipe will yield 1 ¼ cups of Creole seasoning or 20 tablespoons.

    1. Gather ingredients. Measure out 5 ½ teaspoons of paprika, 2 tablespoons of salt, 2 tablespoons of onion powder, 2 tablespoons of garlic powder, 2 tablespoons of dried oregano, 2 tablespoons of dried basil, 1 tablespoon of dried thyme, 1 tablespoon of black pepper, 1 tablespoon of white pepper, and 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper.
    2. Combine ingredients. Combine all ingredients in a bowl or in the storage container and mix or shake to combine.
    3. Store. Place creole seasoning in an airtight container and store it in a cool dark place like a cabinet or pantry until ready to use.

You can use Creole seasoning on whatever sounds good to you! In a pinch you can use it in my Cajun recipes as well. Try our New Orleans BBQ shrimp, or add it to some chicken thighs or french fries. Enjoy!

    💭 Angela's Tips & Recipe Notes

    • This Creole seasoning has just enough spice, but it is still family-friendly as even kids love it.
    • If you prefer it spicier, increase the cayenne pepper a little at a time and taste before adding more so you don't overdo it.
    • The fresher the herbs, the better your seasoning.
    • Storing: Your homemade Creole seasoning should be kept in an airtight container or jar and used within a year. It will start to lose potency over time, particularly the dry herbs.

Is Creole Seasoning The Same As Blackened?

Though similar, Cajun seasoning, Creole seasoning, and blackened seasoning are not the same.

Cajun seasoning tends to be spicier while Creole seasoning is more herb-heavy with only some slight heat. Blackened seasoning is in-between the two.

What Is The Difference Between Creole Seasoning And Old Bay?

You can use Creole seasoning and Old Bay on the same types of food like rice, soups, meat, or seafood, but they are not inherently the same.

Old Bay consists of distinct spices like celery seed, paprika, black pepper, and dry mustard while Creole seasoning is a little more flexible and consists of a variety of herbs and spices. However, the most important ingredient in both is paprika!
