Smokey and savory, this versatile pork seasoning makes every recipe delicious!

My simple pork seasoning tastes so good that you will want to use it on EVERY pork dish!

When you're making a delicious recipe, it is important to season and add flavor in every step. This pork seasoning is the perfect way to give your dish that extra "oomph," without over-salting the pork!

Many recipes call for a simple salt and pepper rub on your pork, using this seasoning in place of that will add better all-around flavor. Every herb and spice in this seasoning is complimentary to the pork's natural flavor, from the ground mustard to the sage!

    🥘 Ingredients

In my pork seasoning, I use complementary herbs and spices that give that natural pork flavor the best taste possible! Sage and ground mustard are classic seasonings that bring out the juicy, savory pork flavor!

    • 2 tablespoons Paprika - While not required, I prefer to use smoked paprika to give the seasoning a nice smokiness.
    • 1 tablespoon Salt - You can use regular table salt if that is what you have on hand, but kosher or sea salt are the best ones to use, in my opinion.
    • ½ tablespoon Ground Black Pepper - Fresh ground is always the best option, however, pre-ground is just fine.
    • ½ tablespoon Garlic Powder - If you're a garlic lover like me, you can add more or even add in some fresh chopped or dried minced garlic!
    • ½ tablespoon Onion Powder - You can use an equal amount of granulated onion or 1½ tablespoons of dried minced onion, whichever you have on hand!
    • 1 teaspoon Dry Mustard Powder - If you do not have this, you can grind up mustard seeds to make your own or use the same amount of tumeric, or ½ teaspoon of horseradish powder.
    • 1 teaspoon Ground Sage - If you are unable to find ground sage, you can either take rubbed sage and grind it with a mortar and pestle, or you can just use rubbed sage.

    OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS

    • ¼ teaspoon Cayenne Pepper - Cayenne will add a nice spice level to your seasoning, you can add even more if you want it spicier!
    • ¼ teaspoon Celery Salt - Celery salt adds a wonderful fresh bite to the seasoning, while also adding more salt, so be careful with your salt levels if adding this in as well.

    🔪 Step-By-Step Instructions

This recipe is super simple to put together, just measure and combine! Try to get your measurements correct, as you don't want to overpower any of the ingredients, including your pork!

    1. Measure your ingredients. First, measure out each ingredient and add it to a small mixing bowl. (2 tablespoons paprika, 1 tablespoon salt, ½ tablespoon ground black pepper, ½ tablespoon garlic powder, ½ tablespoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder, 1 teaspoon ground sage, plus the optional ingredients, ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper and/or ¼ teaspoon celery salt).
    2. Mix herbs and spices. Mix well until all the herbs and spices are evenly distributed throughout the blend. If you would like a super-fine consistency, you may use a spice or coffee grinder to break down the herbs, but it is not essential.
    3. Season your pork. Place pork on a cutting or preparation board and season to your liking, then cook your pork as directed in your recipe.

Whether you decide to go with French, Italian, or even German cuisine, you will have a flavorful, well-seasoned pork dish! Pick your perfect pork recipe to compliment this perfect pork seasoning!

    🥡 Storing

Store this pork seasoning mix in an airtight container, and make sure to keep it in a cool, dark area like your pantry. This keeps moisture out of the mix and that will keep it from clumping.

This seasoning will last for up to 3 months, if stored properly. Make sure to shake the container, then break the herbs and spices apart before using the seasoning again.

    Instructions

    • Measure out all of the ingredients into a small mixing bowl (or the bowl of a spice grinder) including paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, ground sage, and optional spices cayenne pepper or celery salt.
2 tablespoon paprika, 1 tablespoon salt, ½ tablespoon ground black pepper, ½ tablespoon garlic powder, ½ tablespoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder, 1 teaspoon ground sage, ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, ¼ teaspoon celery salt
    • Mix well and use or store.

    Equipment You May Need

    Airtight Spice Container
    Spice Jar Labels
    Spice Grinder

    Notes

    • Yields just over 5 tablespoons of pork seasoning.
    • Season each 1 pound of pork with approximately 1 tablespoon portion of the DIY pork blend, to taste.
    • If you are unable to use any of the dry substitution options for the dry mustard powder, you can use 1 tablespoon of dijon or yellow mustard. The only difference is that the seasoning mix would now be more of a paste, so you will need to brush it on with a pastry brush instead of sprinkling it on.
