- Mix the herbs together. In a small mixing bowl, add 1½ teaspoons of paprika, 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, and ¼ teaspoon each of black pepper, cayenne, dried basil, and oregano. Stir gently to combine. If desired, you can use a spice grinder to break the herbs and spices down into a finer consistency.

❓ How Do You Make Something Blackened?
The process of blackening meat is actually quite simple! First, you need to dredge your meat, shrimp, fish, etc. in butter and then generously coat it in the seasoning mix.
Next, you will sear the meat in a cast-iron or heavy-bottomed pan for that classic blackened crust!
❓ What Does Blackened Taste Like?
"Blackened" refers to not only the seasoning but the technique of cooking that results in a delightfully crispy crust! It is relatively spicy (the level of heat can vary) and has a strong flavor. The exact flavor can vary based on the specific herbs used.
It can be compared to Cajun or Creole flavoring.
