Everyone knows that a good party has good food, and dips are essentially the unofficial food of partying. Whether it's a 5-year-old's birthday party or a Superbowl Sunday watch party, there will likely be chips and dip!
With a spread of dips and a selection of chips, crackers, and other dippers, guests can graze, mingle, and enjoy themselves while snacking. Be sure to see my easy party appetizers, the best cocktails for a party, and easy party desserts to round out your party menu!
1. Cajun Dipping Sauce
My Cajun dip has a cool, creamy sour cream and mayo base. Then, you mix in Cajun seasoning and hot sauce for that classic Cajun kick (which means you control the heat level)!
Try it on grilled alligator bites, Southern fried shrimp, or crispy Panko chicken tenders!
2. Rotel Dip
Rotel dip is like a quick and easy queso con carne using creamy Velveeta, Rotel diced tomatoes, and seasoned ground beef. Pair it with red salsa, salsa verde, or my cream cheese salsa dip for taco nights!
3. French Onion Dip
French onion dip is one of the most classic and popular party appetizers! My recipe is made from scratch with sour cream and a few simple seasonings (no Lipton onion soup mix needed).
Veggies, bread, crackers, chips, everything tastes great in French onion dip!
4. Baked Hot Spinach Artichoke Dip
Cheesy baked spinach artichoke dip is a game day favorite in my house, so I've perfected the recipe over the years! With three different types of cheese, it's as rich and cheesy as anyone could hope for.
You can serve it with tortilla chips or, my favorite, toasted homemade rustic bread!
5. Hot Imitation Crab Dip
Whenever I make this cheesy baked 'crab' dip, someone asks me for the recipe, so naturally, I had to post it to the site! It's cheesy and rich, with tender, flaky pollock in every bite. I highly recommend the extra dash or two of hot sauce!
Baked crab dip pairs perfectly with crackers or bread for a tasty party snack!
6. Olive Dip
If you enjoy olives' briny, salty flavor, my creamy olive dip will be right up your alley. I typically use green olives, but it also works with black olives, or you can combine the two for the ultimate olive dip!
Crackers, bread, veggies, chips, this olive dip can be served with all the above!
7. Tuna Dip
Quick and easy tuna dip using canned tuna, mayo, and sour cream makes a great last-minute addition to any party. Serve with veggie sticks, chips, or crackers (buttery Ritz crackers are my favorite)!
8. Cream Cheese Salsa Dip
You can't beat a 2-ingredient party dip, especially when it tastes this good! All you need is cream cheese and salsa!
The salsa controls the heat level, so grab your favorite jar, and you already know you'll love it! Try it with sliced cheese or chicken quesadillas if you want something heavier!

9. Sour Cream Chip Dip
Sour cream chip dip is essentially seasoned sour cream, so it's a must-try if you are a sour cream fanatic! It's fabulous with homemade potato chips, but when I'm feeling lazy, I grab a bag of wavy chips at the store because the ridges are the best for scooping!
10. Slow Cooker Buffalo Ranch Chicken Dip
Toss some canned chicken, hot sauce, cream cheese, ranch dressing, and cheddar into your crockpot, and it will melt into the most fabulous buffalo ranch dip! I usually serve it with tortilla chips, but the sky is the limit!
11. Sausage Cream Cheese Dip
With only 3 ingredients, my sausage cream cheese dip perfectly balances rich, creamy, and savory flavors. All you need is ground pork sausage, a can of Rotel diced tomatoes and 2 bricks of cream cheese!
It's great on everything from chips to crackers, toasted bread, and more!
12. Cheese Dip for Pretzels
When you bust out ballpark-style jumbo pretzels with homemade beer cheese dip at your next party, everyone will be glad they came! It's tasty on other crackers, bread, and chips, too, but there's just something about that rich and tangy cheddar Swiss cheese dip on a pretzel. Yum!
13. Lobster Artichoke Dip
I add something extra to my baked artichoke dip for special occasions: lobster! Yes, it tastes as good as it sounds, and it gives any celebration an added air of elegance because who can resist sweet, buttery lobster meat?
Serve with tortilla chips, crackers, or toasted crostinis!
14. Mexican 7-Layer Dip
Starting with a base of refried beans, my Mexican 7-layer dip is topped with layers of guacamole, sour cream, cheese, tomatoes, olives, and green onions. Serving it with tortilla chips is pretty standard, though homemade tortillas are also tasty, and you can enjoy it as a spread!
15. Pumpkin Fluff Dip
This sweet pumpkin fluff dessert dip is always a crowd favorite if your party falls from late August to November. It's the ultimate treat for pumpkin spice lovers, and you can mix it up in just 5 minutes!
Try it with cookies, graham crackers, fruit, or chocolate-covered pretzels!
💠Tips For Choosing The Best Dip For Parties
For larger parties, you should choose more than one dip with various chips, crackers, and other dippers. Consider how many guests you'll have and follow these tips for picking your perfect party dip:
- Can't Go Wrong with Classics: If you offer a few classic dips, there is bound to be something for everyone. Popular dips like salsa, guacamole, spinach artichoke dip, queso, or hummus never disappoint!
- Texture Matters: Choose dips with different textures to add variety. For example, a creamy ranch dip complements a rich cheese dip or chunky 7-layer dip.
- Balance Flavors: Aim for a balance of flavors. If you have a spicy salsa, pair it with mild guacamole or a cool tzatziki sauce to provide contrast.
- Pair with the Right Dippers: You have to consider the type of chips you'll be serving and choose dips that complement them. For example, tortilla chips go well with hot and cold dips, while veggie sticks or naan are better for hummus! Things like graham crackers, fruit, and cookies are always fun for dessert dips!
- Test in Advance: It's always a good idea to do a trial run of your dip to ensure it meets your expectations before serving it at your party!
Can I Make Dip For A Party Ahead Of Time?
Cold dips can almost always be prepared in advance. Many even benefit from sitting in the refrigerator for a few hours to allow the flavors to meld! Be sure to cover and refrigerate them until you're ready to serve. Warm dips can often be assembled, refrigerated, and baked right before the party.
What's A Good Dip For Potato Chips?
Because potato chips are thin and brittle, they do best with creamy chilled dips that aren't too chunky. My sour cream dip and cream cheese salsa dip are delicious with potato chips!
How Can I Keep My Dip From Becoming Too Watery?
If your dip contains watery ingredients like tomatoes or cucumbers, pat them dry with paper towels. Drain canned ingredients unless otherwise specified in the recipe. If you're making your dip in advance, wait to add ingredients that hold excess water until just before serving.

Best Party Dip Recipes: 15+ Crowd Pleasing Chip Dips To Make For Any Occasion!
Ingredients
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened, at room temperature)
- ¼ cup sour cream
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- ¾ cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
- 2 tablespoon dried chives (or parsley)
- ½ teaspoon hot sauce (optional, to taste)
- 8 oz imitation crab meat (pollock, chopped or shredded)
Instructions
Prep & Mix The Dip
- Preheat your oven to 350℉ (170℃/Gas Mark 4).
- Add 8 oz cream cheese ¼ cup sour cream, ¼ cup mayonnaise, and 1 teaspoon lemon juice to a large mixing bowl and stir to combine.
- Mix in ¾ cup cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning, 2 tablespoon dried chives, and the optional ½ teaspoon hot sauce if using.
- Next, gently fold in the chopped 8 oz imitation crab meat until evenly dispersed.
Bake & Serve
- Transfer the crab dip to a baking dish and bake at 350℉ (170℃/Gas Mark 4) until bubbling hot around the edges.
- Remove from oven and serve immediately. Arrange with chips or crackers for dipping.
Notes
- Of course, jumbo lump crab meat can be swapped for imitation crab meat if you have access to the real thing.
- Old Bay seasoning or lemon pepper can be used instead of the Cajun seasoning, but I prefer the kick of Cajun!
- Use flaked imitation crab meat or imitation crab sticks and chop them up. For varying textures, try a combination of both.
- You can make the dip in advance, cover it, and refrigerate it for up to 48 hours before baking. Stir it gently before you pop it in the oven and bake as directed.
- Once cooled, transfer your crab dip to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4-5 days.Â
- To reheat, add the crab dip to a baking dish and bake at 350℉ (170℃/Gas Mark 4) for 10-15 minutes or until warmed through.
