This fajita seasoning recipe combines a deeply flavorful blend of herbs and spices with a pinch of cayenne pepper for a kick! Of course, you can always tone down the heat for family dinners or leave it out altogether. Chicken, beef, shrimp, this seasoning will work for all your favorite fajita recipes!

    Homemade Fajita Seasoning

If you aren't making your own seasonings at home, it's never too late to start! Homemade seasoning mixes can be tweaked to fit your tastes, plus they don't have all the preservatives that are in store-bought blends.

I swapped to DIY seasonings a while back and once I landed on this fajita seasoning recipe, I knew I would be adding it to my permanent collection! I've tried it on chicken, steak, and beef fajitas all with fabulously flavorful results!

🔪 How To Make Fajita Seasoning

Making this fajita seasoning is as easy as it gets! You will need measuring spoons, a small mixing bowl, a whisk or spoon, and an airtight container or spice jar.

One batch makes 2 tablespoons of seasoning which can season 2 pounds of meat (use 1 tablespoon per pound).

    1. Measure the ingredients. Measure out the ingredients (1 teaspoon of chili powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of paprika, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 2 teaspoons of cumin, and ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper) and put them in a small mixing bowl.
    2. Combine. Stir or whisk to combine.
    3. Use or store. Use right away to make fajitas, or place in an airtight container or spice jar and store for later.

This versatile fajita seasoning can be used on chicken, steak, pork, or shrimp fajitas! For side dish suggestions, be sure to stop by my page on what to serve with fajitas. Enjoy!

    💭 Angela's Tips & Recipe Notes

    • This recipe makes 2 tablespoons of seasoning for 2 pounds of meat (use 1 tablespoon per pound).
    • For spicier fajitas, increase the amount of cayenne pepper.
    • Shake before each use to redistribute any ingredients that might have sunk to the bottom of the jar.

    🥡 Storing

Keep your fajita seasoning somewhere cool and dark like a cabinet or pantry in an airtight container or spice jar to keep it fresh. It will last for at least 1 year, but for the best flavor use it within 6 months.

    ❓ FAQ

    Is Fajita Seasoning Spicy?

There's a tiny little kick from the ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper, though you can leave it out if you prefer. If you like your fajitas spicy, you could increase that amount to ½ teaspoon or more. Of course, you can always add hot sauce to your fajitas, too!

What Is Fajita Seasoning Made Of?

Fajita seasoning typically includes Mexican herbs and spices as well as some traditional herbs and spices. This blend consists of chili powder, salt, paprika, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.

Are Taco Seasoning and Fajita Seasoning The Same Thing?

Taco seasoning and fajita seasoning include many of the same ingredients but in different amounts. Typically, taco seasoning includes more chili powder and dried oregano.
