🥘 Ingredients
Loads of yummy ingredients go into this recipe. After all, it wouldn’t be “supreme” if the nachos weren’t done up to the max.
The more, the merrier, in my book when it comes to fixing nachos. You can’t have too many toppings!
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Use a decent olive oil to bring out the best of the flavors of the ingredients.
- White Onion – Aromatic and tasty.
- Garlic – Lots of flavor, full of fragrance.
- Ground Beef – Leftover taco meat, shredded chicken, and leftover steak are also great meat choices in any nachos! Use a vegan meatless ground “meat” if beef isn’t your thing.
- Diced Green Chiles – Turn up the volume! These flavorful chiles are even more amazing if you happen to have some fire-roasted chiles or Hatch chiles on hand!
- Taco Seasoning Mix – A nice blend of spices to liven things up.
- Refried Beans (optional) – Smooth and soft, adding another layer of lusciousness. These are totally optional, but a necessary part of your nachos if you want them Taco Bell style! And, of course, you can always swap the refried variety out with some tasty black beans. 🙂
- Tortilla Chips – Get a big bag to handle all these toppings!
- Nacho Cheese Sauce – Melty and mouthwatering. You'll usually find nacho cheese sauce in the ethnic section of your grocery store, near the Velveeta cheese, or in the chips aisle.
- Mexican Cheese Blend – Variety is the spice of life! The pre-packaged shredded cheese combines 4 kinds of cheese for great flavor!
Additional nacho topping options to make your nachos truly 'supreme' are diced tomatoes, pickled jalapenos, diced avocado, chopped cilantro, chopped green onion, sour cream or crema, and sliced olives.
Plus you have all of the wonderful salsa varieties and guacamole that totally work with a big serving of these nachos.

🔪 How To Make Nachos Supreme
It’s so much fun to make nachos supreme, and the intoxicating scent that will fill your kitchen will get your tummy rumbling. My whole family loves when I make nachos supreme, and we share a big plate together along with fresh and fruity drinks.
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (218 degrees C) and line a large, rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup if desired. I highly recommend doing so, as the melted cheese can get stuck.
- In a large skillet or non-stick frying pan, heat the extra virgin olive oil to medium-high temperature. Once it is shimmering and just beginning to smoke, add the diced white onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes. The onion should become fragrant, tender, and transparent.
- Start by adding 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and sauté with the cooked onions for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Next, add 1 pound of ground beef, break it apart with a large wooden spoon or spatula in the skillet as it cooks, and brown the beef until almost completely browned (about 5-6 minutes).
- Then add the taco seasoning and stir into the ground beef. Add water as instructed on your seasoning packet (or use ¼ cup of water with my homemade taco seasoning mix).
- Combine the refried beans (optional) with the ground beef and taco seasoning. Cook until the beans are heated.
- Spread out the tortilla chips as your base onto the baking sheet, then top with 1 cup of nacho cheese sauce (heat as directed in the microwave before pouring over the chips), beef and beans mixture, and 2 cups shredded of Mexican cheese blend.
- Bake at 425 degrees F (218 degrees C) for 15 minutes or until the cheese is completely melted and slightly browned.
- Remove the tray from the oven and add lots of your favorite toppings then serve immediately. Enjoy!

🥡 Storing & Reheating
Storing leftovers can be a bit messy, and your nachos supreme will wind up kinda soggy. It’s still delicious, but you’re better off finishing it fresh. Save your appetite on nachos supreme day and you won’t have to worry about leaving any behind!
However, if due to no fault of your own, everyone ends up full, here's the best way to store your nachos:
Place the cooked nachos (toppings and all) into a plastic storage bag. Seal securely while squeezing out any excess air, then refrigerate. *You can remove toppings that you will want to keep cold (like sour cream) at this time if desired.
It is best to store your leftover nachos once fully cooled, but not more than an hour after removing them from the oven to serve. Refrigerate for up two days maximum.
Reheating Cooked Nachos
When reheating your nachos, it works best to remove any of the toppings that you want to keep cold. Set aside sour cream, tomatoes, and any other toppings that you prefer not to have cooked.
Preheat your oven to 250°F (121°C) and spread the leftover nachos out on a large baking sheet. Place your nachos into the preheated oven and cook for 5 minutes, up to 10 minutes, watching them closely to prevent them from burning.
Your nachos are done and ready to serve once everything is nice and melty, and the center nachos and toppings are heated through.

Only problem that I had was with oven .... only set at 400 and by 8 minutes in, the chips on the outer edges were beginning to brown and the cheese was bubbly ..... but it was absolutely delicious ....

What is the white sauce drizzled over the top?
Angela @ BakeItWithLove.com says
It's Mexican crema, kind of like a thin version of sour cream that's absolutely wonderful as-is or with things like cilantro and jalapeno pureed into it.

Where do the green chilis come into the recipe? They are on the ingredients list but it doesn't say when to add but them again I could so be looking over that step...lol
Angela @ BakeItWithLove.com says
Add the green chiles when browning the ground beef. They're already softened, so technically they can also be added after the beef has been browned. Thanks for catching that!!
