Homemade Steak Burrito Bowl Recipe

I'm a big fan of burrito bowls since it is so easy to mix them up to match whatever kind of mood I'm in! I can make them spicy with some hot salsa, give a hint of sweetness with some pineapple salsa, or load them up with tons of cheese!

As an added bonus, I can easily prepare all of the separate components in advance, so that I can simply whip up a burrito bowl whenever I like! It's a perfect dish for picky eaters or even a large family since everyone can choose their own toppings!

🔪 How To Make A Steak Burrito Bowl

Cooking the steak (and making the rice if you haven't already) are the only real steps that you need to do before just piling everything into a bowl! Go ahead and grab a skillet, a mixing bowl, and some tongs.

This recipe is for 4 servings, but they are pretty filling!

Process image 2 showing steak cooking in pan almost finished with added seasoning.
  1. Season the meat. Drizzle one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil over 1 pound of strips of skirt steak and generously season with 1 tablespoon of taco seasoning (or fajita seasoning). Toss until all of the meat is well coated.
  2. Cook the steak. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. When hot, add the steak to the skillet and cook, stirring as needed, until browned and cooked to your liking.
  3. Prepare the bowls. Divide 4 cups of cilantro lime rice into 4 bowls and then top each bowl with divided portions of 3 cups of corn, 3 cups of black beans, ½ cup of mango salsa, 1 cup of Mexican cheese, 1 diced avocado, and ¼ cup of sour cream.
  4. Serve. Garnish with ¼ cup of chopped cilantro and serve immediately.

Steak burrito bowls are an all-in-one meal that doesn't need any sides! Anything you'd like to add can just go right into the bowl as well! Enjoy!

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • Feel free to customize this burrito bowl with all of your favorite combinations! Try some shredded cheese, queso fresco, avocado, shredded lettuce, guacamole, salsa verde, salsa roja, sauteed onions, diced tomatoes, pico de Gallo, and more!
  • I used mango salsa in my bowl, but it would be equally tasty with your favorite type of salsa!
  • Instead of fajita seasoning or taco seasoning, you could also marinate your steak using some carne asada marinade!

🥡 Storing

I would recommend storing the individual components in your burrito bowl separately. Then, when ready, you can just add it all to the same bowl and enjoy!
