I make chicken wings frequently, and this recipe for baked wings is one of my favorites! There's no greasy texture or oily mess like there tends to be when frying.

Instead, you are left with crispy skin and wonderfully tender and juicy meaty inside. These easy chicken wings make a fabulous appetizer or main course for the whole family!

🥘 Ingredients

I used BBQ chicken seasoning for my baked chicken wings this time, but Cajun seasoning or any other chicken seasoning would be equally delicious! You can easily control the heat level with seasoning and wing sauce.

Tall photo showing ingredients for baked chicken wings.
  • Chicken Wings - 2 pounds of bone-in wings, separated and tips removed if desired.
  • Vegetable Oil - 1 tablespoon vegetable or cooking oil with a high smoke point.
  • BBQ Chicken Seasoning - 1 tablespoon of BBQ chicken rub, regular chicken seasoning, or Cajun seasoning.
  • Chicken Wing Sauce - 3 tablespoons of your favorite wing sauce, or see my chicken wing sauce recipe.
  • Parsley (optional) - 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley for garnish.

*Be sure to see the free printable recipe card below for ingredients, exact amounts & instructions with tips!*

🔪 How To Bake Chicken Wings

Be sure to get the wings as dry as possible before seasoning them so they will bake up extra crispy! You will need a rimmed baking sheet, a metal roasting rack (*see note), and a large bowl.

As an appetizer, 2 pounds of wings makes about 24 appetizer servings or 4-5 servings as a main course.

Step 1: Prep. Preheat your oven to 400°F (205°C/Gas Mark 6). Grab a rimmed baking sheet and place a metal roasting rack on top.

Step 2: Season. Using paper towels, pat 2 pounds of chicken wings dry. Place them in a large bowl with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and toss to coat. Then, season them with 1 tablespoon of BBQ chicken seasoning (or your preferred seasoning) and toss to coat once more.

Bake, Toss in Wing Sauce & Serve

Step 3: Bake. Place the prepared wings on the roasting rack with enough room between them for air to circulate. Bake at 400°F (205°C/Gas Mark 6) until golden and crispy, about 45-50 minutes.

Step 4: Add sauce and serve. Once your wings are cooked and crispy, place them in a large bowl with 3 tablespoons of wing sauce and toss to coat.

Step 5: Serve. Garnish with 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley if desired, and serve immediately.

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • Patting your wings dry with paper towels before seasoning is the key to extra-crispy wings!
  • Any of your favorite dipping sauces would be delicious with these wings. Ranch, blue cheese, Caesar, or honey mustard sauce would all be tasty!
  • You can use a wire cooling rack instead of a metal roasting rack, but you can still make baked wings if you don't have either. They may be a tad less crispy, but they will still be delicious.

🥡 Storing & Reheating

Store leftover baked chicken wings refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

Freezing

Once cooled, transfer your baked wings to a zip-top freezer bag, squeeze out the air, and seal it tightly. Freeze for up to 3 months and thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.

Reheating

Arrange the leftover wings in a single layer on a baking sheet. Pop them into an oven preheated to 350°F (175°C/Gas Mark 4) and bake for 10-20 minutes or until they have an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Chicken wings can be baked at 375F for 1 hour, turning every 20 minutes for maximum crispness. You may need an additional 10-15 minutes depending on how crisp you like your chicken wings. Thanks for asking!
