🔪 How To Make Sirloin Steak Tips
Pan-searing these steak bites is super easy, but it goes very fast. You will need a killer (*see note), a spatula, and a spoon for basting.
As an appetizer, this recipe will make about 6 servings. As a meal, I'd say it is closer to 3 or 4.
- Heat. Bring a large frying pan, skillet, or griddle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil to high heat. The oil should begin to shimmer and should be just starting to smoke.
- Season. Season 1 ½ pounds of cubed steak tips with steak seasoning, then add them to the skillet along with ½ a sprig (or more) of thyme for aromatics.
- Sear. Cook for about 4 minutes, or until all sides are browned. If you are using a small pan, cook the meat in batches to prevent overcrowding the meat.
- Baste and serve. Just before serving, add 1 tablespoon of butter and baste the melted butter over the cooked steak tips for about 30 seconds. Serve immediately. Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired.
Use toothpicks to serve as an appetizer, or serve your sirloin steak bites with a side of roasted potatoes or buttered noodles with vegetables for a quick and complete family meal! My favorite pasta method is to toss the cooked pasta in the pan juices with a bit of cream for an out-of-this-world beef noodle dinner! Enjoy!
💭 Angela's Tips & Recipe Notes
- Letting your steak come to room temperature before cooking will reduce cooking time and give you a better sear!
- Cast iron skillets are perfect for evenly distributing heat, resulting in a beautiful caramelization on your browned steak bites.
- Whichever pan style you use, leave enough room to not overcrowd the steak bites. Cook in batches, if needed.
- Ribeye steaks and tenderloin make divinely delicious steak bites, but they are a more expensive cut. For an even cheaper option use a chuck roast and cut it into steaks or bites (and finish them with ghee for the most amazingly tender bites from a less premium beef cut)!
🥡 Storing & Reheating
You can place any leftovers into an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
If you want to freeze your steak bites, place them into a heavy-duty freezer bag and squeeze out excess air. Freeze them for up to 4 months, making sure to thaw them in the fridge overnight before reheating.
Reheating Sirloin Steak Tips
To reheat your steak bites, preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Place your steak tips in a baking dish and warm them in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until heated through.
❓ FAQ
The more tender the steak, the better! However, if you are on a budget, an expensive cut like a tenderloin or filet mignon may not be an option. Sirloin and ribeye steaks are the next best thing (though I am of the mindset that all steak bites are good steak bites!)
Mine were! The key is to sear them quickly at high heat. That way, the outside develops a delicious crust but the inside stays tender.
You can serve them however you like! Try on top of a bed of mashed potatoes, rice, or cream cheese pasta. You can even put toothpicks in them and serve them from a tray as an appetizer!

"My husband likes to eat steak when we go out to eat. I want to try to cook a steak for him at home soon. These appetizers look good, thanks for the recipe. It's good to know that you need to cook the steak at a high temperature. I want to keep that in mind!"
