🥘 Chocolate Blossom Cookie Ingredients

If you enjoy baking at all, you probably have all of these ingredients at home! Simply choose your favorite kind of Hershey's kisses and you are all set!

Chocolate blossom cookies ingredients on light background ready to mix and bake.
  • Butter - ¾ cup of butter that has been softened at room temperature. This allows the butter to cream together with the other ingredients really well.
  • Sugar - ½ cup of sugar. You'll need more for rolling the cookies as well.
  • Brown Sugar - ½ cup of packed light brown sugar.
  • Egg - 1 large egg that is at room temperature.
  • Vanilla - 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract. Use pure vanilla for the best flavor.
  • Baking Soda - 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
  • Salt - ¼ teaspoon of salt.
  • Flour - 1¾ cups of all-purpose flour. Measure it out by fluffing it up and using a spoon to scoop it into your measuring cup before leveling it off.
  • Cocoa Powder - ½  cup of dark chocolate cocoa powder that has been sifted. You can use regular unsweetened cocoa powder, but I find that the dark chocolate version really adds a rich chocolate flavor!
  • Hershey's Kisses - 24 Hershey's kisses. I used milk chocolate, but you can use whichever variety you like the best!

🔪 How To Make Chocolate Blossom Cookies

The key to these tasty cookies is making sure you don't overmix your dough! To begin, you'll need a stand mixer (or hand mixer), a cookie sheet, and a dish for rolling your cookies in sugar!

Depending on the size you make your cookies, you should have about 24 rich and tasty cookies!

Mix the Cookie Dough

Chocolate blossom cookies process 1 cream together the peanut butter, butter, and sugar.
Chocolate blossom cookies process 2 add vanilla, salt, baking powder.
Chocolate blossom cookies process 3 add flour and mix.
  1. Preheat. To get started, go ahead and preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream the butter. Using your stand mixer or hand mixer, cream together ¾ cup of room temperature butter, ½ cup of white granulated sugar, and ½ cup of light brown sugar until smooth and creamy.
  3. Mix in ingredients. Add in 1 large egg, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and ¼ teaspoon of salt and mix until creamy again. Once combined, gradually add in 1¾ cups of all-purpose flour and ½ cup of dark chocolate cocoa powder until a soft dough forms.
  4. Roll the cookies. Pour some granulated sugar into a shallow dish. Scoop out some cookie dough and roll it in your hands until it forms a ball. Gently roll the cookie dough ball in the sugar and then place it onto the cookie sheet. Repeat this process, making equal-sized balls, and then arrange them onto your baking sheet. You can leave your cookies as balls (no need to press them down) as they will spread slightly when baking.

Bake & Top With Hershey's Kisses

  1. Bake. Bake the dough in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 7-9 minutes, or until your cookies are puffy. While they are baking in the oven, go ahead and unwrap your Hershey's kisses so they are ready to go!
  2. Add the kisses. Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately add the unwrapped Hershey's kisses (24 total) by gently pressing one into the center of each cookie.
  3. Cool. Allow the cookies to cool completely.

Add these tasty cookies to your next holiday gift basket! They are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them! Enjoy!

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • You can use any of your favorite varieties of Hershey's kisses for this recipe. I used milk chocolate, but dark chocolate would be a great option, too!
  • Make sure your cookie dough balls are nice and smooth before placing them onto the cookie sheet. This will ensure that your baked cookies look extra good!
  • Go ahead and unwrap your Hershey's kisses while you are waiting for the cookies to bake in the oven. That way, you'll be ready to press them onto the cookies as soon as they come out of the oven!

🥡 Storing

Allow your cookies to cool completely before storing them. They can be kept at room temperature in an airtight container.

To freeze, place your cooled cookies into a zip-top storage bag and pop them into the freezer. When ready, you can allow them to sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before enjoying them.

❓ Recipe FAQs

What Are Chocolate Blossom Cookies?

Chocolate blossom cookies are a classic chocolate cookie that has been rolled in sugar, baked, and then gently topped with a Hershey's kiss!

What Kind Of Hershey's Kisses Can I Use?

You can use whatever variety you like! While standard milk chocolate kisses are used here, you could also try dark chocolate or caramel. Additionally, you can mix it up with a more unique flavor like cherry cordial, hot cocoa, or cookies and cream! I'm sure they will be delicious no matter which kind you use.

Can I Make This Dough In Advance?

Yep! You can go ahead and prepare this cookie dough a few days before you need it and store it in the refrigerator (this actually helps keep the cookies from spreading as much). When ready, simply bake as directed!
