🔪 How To Make Apple Pie Monkey Bread
The monkey bread is straightforward, and the 3-ingredient icing is even easier! You'll need your measuring utensils, a knife and cutting board, a mixing bowl, a silicone spatula, and a bundt pan to get started.
This pull-apart apple pie monkey bread makes about 12 servings. If you have any leftovers, it's hard to resist snagging a piece when you walk by!
Prepare The Apple Pie Monkey Bread Ingredients
- Preheat. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and liberally grease and flour your bundt or tube pan (or use non-stick baking spray).
- Cut the apples. Empty 20 ounces of apple pie filling into a large mixing bowl. Cut the apple slices into smaller pieces using a knife or knives to cut the apples into chunks.
- Add sugar & spices. Add ¼ cup sugar and ¼ cup light brown sugar, spices (½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, and ¼ teaspoon salt), and 1 tablespoon of melted butter to the apples. Mix to combine.
- Cut the biscuits. Cut 3 cans of biscuits into quarters (or smaller) and add the biscuit pieces into the large mixing bowl with the apple pie filling. Fold into the mixture to coat evenly with the apple pieces.
Assemble & Bake
- Bake. Transfer the biscuit and apple mixture into your prepared pan, then bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45-50 minutes. To check that the bread is done, note that it should be fluffy, and an inserted toothpick, knife, or cake tester should come out clean. *Additionally, a digital thermometer should read 190°F (88°C) when inserted into the center of the bread.
- Flip out of the pan. Remove from the oven when done and invert over a plate or serving tray right away to remove the monkey bread.
Make The Vanilla Icing, Drizzle & Serve
- Make the icing. In a small bowl, combine icing ingredients (1 cup of confectioners' powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons of heavy cream, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract). Start with less cream and add more as needed to reach your desired drizzle consistency. Mix until smooth.
- Drizzle and serve. Spread the icing on your monkey bread, using a spoon to drizzle the glaze or pour slowly over the top. Serve immediately while warm.
This apple pie monkey bread is absolutely heavenly, with a glass of homemade apple cider around the holidays. And, like apple pie, it is also delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! Enjoy!
💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Notes
- The cinnamon and nutmeg can be swapped for apple pie spice. Use ¾ teaspoon of apple pie spice in the monkey bread in its place.
- Don't press the apple pie mixture into the bundt pan for the best results.
- Cut the ingredients to ⅓ of the recipe for a smaller version and bake in an 8-inch cake pan for about 20 minutes or until done.
- Use a pizza cutter to make cutting your biscuit dough a snap!
🥡 Storing & Reheating
You can keep your apple pie monkey bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. It tastes the best on days 1 & 2.
Freezing Apple Pie Monkey Bread
Wrap your apple pie monkey bread in foil, then place it in a Ziploc freezer bag. You can freeze it for up to 2 months and set it out on the counter to thaw whenever you're ready to enjoy it again.
Reheating Apple Pie Monkey Bread
Apple Pie monkey bread is best served warm, so leftovers should be heated before serving. Heat in short 30-second increments in the microwave. (Extra icing for dipping is great in this situation, as the icing will likely melt during heating!)

❓ Recipe FAQs
It's best right out of the oven, but you can prepare the biscuit dough and filling mixture in advance and store them separately in the refrigerator. When you're ready to bake the monkey bread, assemble it in the bundt pan and bake it according to the recipe instructions.
I haven't tried this, but I don't see why not! If you aren't a fan of apples, try my blackberry pie filling or blueberry pie filling! Be sure to come back and let me know how it turns out!
A bundt pan is traditionally used for monkey bread because it helps it to cook evenly, and the round shape makes grabbing pieces easier. You can try it in a large loaf pan, cake pan, or 9x13 baking pan. However, you will need to use a thermometer to test the center of your monkey bread to make sure it is done (it should read 190°F (88°C)).
The top of the bread may cook faster than the center, so you should cover it in foil as it finishes baking so it doesn't burn.
