Easy Sauteed Sweet Potatoes Recipe
I love all kinds of potatoes; waxy, starchy, all-purpose, and even sweet! They can be prepared in many ways and pair well with many different entrees!
The extra special thing about sweet potatoes is that they can easily be enjoyed, savory or sweet, by tweaking a few ingredients! Add a touch of garlic powder for a savory dish, or swap it out for some cinnamon to enhance the potatoes' natural sweetness!

🥘 Sauteed Sweet Potatoes Ingredients
The sweet potato is the star of the show here! You'll need some cooking oil and basic seasonings to let the natural flavor shine!
- Sweet Potato - 1 large sweet potato that has been washed and peeled.
- Olive Oil - 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO).
- Salt & Pepper - ¼ teaspoon of salt and pepper, to taste.
- Garlic Powder - ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder. If you want a sweeter version, swap this out for ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon!

🔪 How To Saute Sweet Potatoes
If you've ever sauteed anything before, sweet potatoes are no different! Go ahead and get a large skillet, a knife, your cutting board, and a wooden spoon.
This recipe is for sauteing 1 sweet potato, which is enough for 2 people.
- Prepare the potato. Wash 1 large sweet potato and then pat it dry. Then, peel it and dice it into cubes about ½-1 inch in size.
- Heat the oil. Add 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil to a large skillet or frying pan and then place it over medium-high heat.
- Cook. Add the sweet potato to the hot pan and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fork-tender and browned.
- Season. Season the potatoes with ¼ teaspoon of salt, pepper, and garlic powder (or ground cinnamon for the sweeter version), then stir well to combine. Cook for 1 more minute. Remove the skillet from the heat and serve immediately.

- If you want to cook multiple sweet potatoes, use an extra skillet for cooking in batches or a large electric griddle to avoid overcrowding the skillet.

- A drizzle of honey or maple syrup before serving is a sweet treat if you have opted to add cinnamon rather than the savory garlic powder.

❓ Recipe FAQs
Nope! You can simply peel and dice your sweet potatoes. There is no need to soak them beforehand!
I peeled my sweet potatoes for this recipe. However, you can leave the peel on if you prefer!
They may stick when you first add your sweet potatoes to the skillet. Simply give them a few minutes of cooking, and they should naturally release on their own. If not, make sure you have enough oil in the pan!
