Best Horseradish Sauce For Prime Rib

If you haven't tried a horseradish sauce before, or it wasn't quite to your taste when you tried it in the past, give this version a try for a pleasant surprise. It is, hands down, my favorite!

Even better, there's still a perfect use for any unused portion of your sauce when you make up some prime rib sandwiches. Slather a nice layer of the creamy horseradish sauce on your sandwich roll and enjoy it yet again!

This sauce and my au jus or red wine jus are perfect! Take your holiday meal to the next level when dishing up a juicy prime rib with these rich condiments!

    🥘 Ingredients

There are only a handful of ingredients here! You might even have them all in your fridge already!

    • Horseradish - ¼ cup of your favorite brand of prepared horseradish.
    • Dijon Mustard - 1 tablespoon of coarse ground Dijon mustard.
    • Salt & Pepper - Adjusted to suit your tastes.
    • Fresh Chives (optional) - 1 Tablespoon chopped.

🔪 How To Make Horseradish Sauce For Prime Rib

This recipe requires no cooking and is as easy as it gets! You will only need a mixing bowl, a silicone spatula, and some measuring cups.

This recipe is written for 4 servings, but it depends on how much you use with your prime rib! Make a double batch if you are a serious horseradish lover!

    1. Add ingredients. In a small mixing bowl, add 1 cup of sour cream, ¼ cup of horseradish, and 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard. Add optional chives.
    2. Mix and adjust. Gently mix all of the ingredients until they are well combined. Taste your sauce and add salt and pepper as needed.
    3. Store. Store your sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve (*see note).
    4. Serve. Garnish with the optional 1 tablespoon of fresh chopped chives when serving, or mix them in before refrigerating the sauce.

Use this sauce for your favorite prime rib, roast beef, or steak recipes! It even tastes great when adding it to some prime rib leftovers.

In fact, this horseradish sauce goes well with my leftover prime rib sandwich or prime rib French dip sandwich. Enjoy!

    💭 Tips & Notes

    • Make this sauce a day ahead of holiday meals for the best flavor. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
    • To store: This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

❓ What Is The Difference Between Prepared Horseradish And Horseradish Sauce?

You can purchase prepared horseradish at the store or make it yourself. It consists of horseradish root, vinegar, and salt. Prepared horseradish is simply an ingredient within horseradish sauce that also includes other items like sour cream and Dijon mustard.

❓ What Does Horseradish Taste Like?

Horseradish itself has a very pungent, hot, and spicy flavor. This is why it is typically paired with vinegar and salt to make prepared horseradish (which is still hot and spicy).

❓ What Is Creamy Horseradish Sauce Good On?

Typically, it is a perfect match with prime rib! Additionally, it tastes fantastic with other meaty entrees like beef tenderloin or steak. For some incredibly bold flavors, you can use it to make some deviled eggs or spicy potato salad!
