Baked Avocado Fries

Oven-baked avocado fries are coated with a crispy breadcrumb coating that makes them a delectable snack or appetizer! You can dip them in all of your favorite condiments and sauces, too! Plus, they're much better for you than their deep-fried potato counterparts!

Crispy Oven Baked Avocado Fries

I've been on a 'veggie fry' kick lately, as you may have noticed from my recent green bean fries and zucchini fries recipes. They're just so tasty, crispy, and delectably dippable that I love getting to try different flavor and texture combinations!

I've tried avocado fries while out and about and figured they should be next on my list, and I was not disappointed. The avocado stays creamy and soft on the inside, but the Panko breadcrumb coating bakes up golden and crunchy!

🥘 Baked Avocado Fries Ingredients

There's just a short list of ingredients needed to make avocado fries. I love that I know exactly what's going into them as opposed to frozen french fries (or even frozen vegetable fries).

Tall ingredient photo for baked avocado fries.
  • Avocado - 2 large avocados or 4 small avocados. They should be just slightly underripe.
  • All-Purpose Flour - ¼ cup of all-purpose flour or your preferred flour alternative.
  • Eggs - 2 large eggs lightly beaten. You could also try an egg substitute.
  • Panko Breadcrumbs - 1 cup of Panko breadcrumbs or make your own homemade Panko.
  • Salt - ¼ teaspoon of salt.
  • Garlic Powder - ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder.

🔪 How To Make Baked Avocado Fries

These baked avocado fries are ready to eat after a few quick and easy steps. To get started, you'll need a knife and cutting board, a baking sheet, a wire rack, parchment paper, measuring utensils, and 3 shallow dishes or bowls.

I usually plan on serving half of one large avocado or one full small avocado per person. You can easily scale this recipe up or down as needed on the recipe card below!

  1. Prep. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place a greased wire rack on top.
  2. Slice the avocados. Peel and pit 2 large avocados (402 grams), then slice them in half. Cut each half into wedges and set aside.
  3. Set up the dredging station. Set up a dredging station by placing three shallow dishes or bowls next to each other. Pour ¼ cup (31.25 grams) of all-purpose flour into the first dish, then add 2 large eggs (100 grams) to the second dish and lightly beat them. Mix together 1 cup (60 grams) of Panko breadcrumbs, ¼ teaspoon (1.5 grams) of salt, and ¼ teaspoon (0.75 grams) of garlic powder in the third dish.
  4. Bread the avocado wedges. Take an avocado wedge and dip it into the flour, fully coating the surface, then into the egg, and finally into the breadcrumb mixture. Roll the fry and press gently to get the coating to stick, then transfer it to the wire rack on your prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining wedges.
  5. Bake. Make sure the avocado fries have some space between them to cook properly. Place the baking sheet on the center rack and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15-17 minutes or until golden and crispy. Serve with your favorite dipping sauces.

🍶 Sauces

There are so many delicious sauces and dips that would taste fabulous with these avocado fries! Ranch dressing and honey mustard sauce are always a safe bet.

You could also branch out and try some new flavors. I recommend my chipotle aioli, Taco Bell creamy baja sauce, Cajun dipping sauce, or even my homemade honey BBQ sauce! Enjoy!

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • You want to use slightly underripe avocados. They will soften as they bake in the oven, and this helps prevent them from being too mushy while you dredge and coat them.
  • Using a wire rack on top of a baking sheet helps the avocado fries get crispy on all sides! If you don't have a wire rack, you can place them directly on the parchment paper. Be sure to flip your fries at the halfway point.
  • Make these your own by using your favorite seasoning in the breadcrumb mixture. Cajun seasoning or Italian seasoning would be delicious!
  • For a zesty Mexican flare, dip your avocado wedges in lime juice before coating them with flour. Then, mix some Tajin into the breadcrumb mixture!

🥡 Storing & Reheating

Leftover avocado fries can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Reheating Baked Avocado Fries

Reheat your avocado fries in the oven at 425°F (220°C) for about 10 minutes.

❓ Recipe FAQs

Can I Use Gluten-Free Breadcrumbs And Flour To Make Baked Avocado Fries?

Absolutely! If you prefer a gluten-free option, you can use gluten-free breadcrumbs and your favorite flour alternative. The texture may be slightly different, but they should still turn out crispy and delicious!

Can I Make Avocado Fries Ahead Of Time?

I don't recommend it. Avocado fries are one of those things that taste best right out of the oven. If you have leftovers, however, you can refrigerate them for 1-2 days and reheat them in your oven or air fryer.

Can I Freeze Leftover Avocado Fries?

While it's not recommended to freeze already baked avocados, you can freeze the unbaked avocado slices. Arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet, spritz with lemon or lime juice, and freeze for 1 hour. Then, transfer them to a freezer-safe container or bag. See my page on how to freeze avocado for more useful information!
