Easy Chili Cheese Dog Casserole

Easy, simple, and tasty casseroles are definitely one of my favorite things to make, especially when I've had a long, busy day. This chili dog casserole easily fits the bill, as it is ready to eat in only 30 minutes!

Of course, kids (and adults) love it since it combines hot dogs, crescent rolls, cheese, and chili! I love that it is all made in one dish so that I don't have to clean a lot of dishes!

  • Crescent Rolls - One 8-ounce refrigerated canister of crescent roll dough.

🔪 How To Make Chili Dog Casserole

This chili dog casserole is so ridiculously simple that it can be made on even a busy weeknight! All you need is a 9x13 baking dish, your measuring cups, and a cheese grater!

This recipe will make enough casserole for 8 servings.

  1. Preheat. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C/Gas Mark 5) and lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Roll. Lay out your 8 ounces of crescent rolls and place one of the 8 hot dogs on the wide end of each triangle. Roll up the crescent rolls towards the narrow end and then place them into your baking dish.
  3. Bake. Bake in the oven at 375°F (190°C/Gas Mark 5) for 15 minutes.
  4. Add. Remove from the oven and pour 30 ounces of chili around the hotdogs. Sprinkle 3 cups of cheddar cheese over the entire dish.
  5. Bake again. Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until hot and the crescent rolls are golden.
  6. Serve. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.

Serve your chili dog casserole with some homemade tortilla chips to scoop up all the extra chili! Add a Tex-Mex salad as a side or appetizer, too! Enjoy!

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • You can make this casserole using canned chili, leftover chili, or some fresh homemade chili! Try out my Dutch oven chili, homemade chili, or Texas chili.
  • Baking the crescent rolls with the hotdogs before adding the chili will help to keep the bottoms of the rolls from getting soggy or being undercooked.
  • Use your favorite type of hotdogs (or even bratwurst) for this recipe.

🥡 Storing & Reheating

Store any leftovers in a sealed container in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Reheating Chili Dog Casserole

Reheat your chili dog casserole either in the microwave or back in the oven.

❓ Recipe FAQs

What Kind Of Chili Should I Use?

Whatever kind you like! This recipe is perfect if you have some leftover chili in the fridge, or you can use fresh homemade chili or store-bought canned chili! It's the perfect opportunity to customize how zesty you want your casserole to be, too!

Can Chili Dog Casserole Be Made In Advance?

While it can be stored for later, this dish is best when enjoyed right after baking! Plus, it only takes 30 minutes to throw together, so it is super easy to make even when you are on a time crunch!

Can I Use Something Other Than Crescent Rolls?

Sure! Flour tortillas make a fantastic choice for rolling up your hot dogs! Simply roll them up, add your chili and cheese, and then bake them! You don't need to bake the hotdogs alone first.
