This burger sauce is the secret ingredient that you didn't even know was missing from all of your favorite burger recipes! It uses items you most likely already have on hand and comes together in just a couple of minutes! You can slather it on the bun, smear it on the patty, or even dunk your French fries in it!

Best Homemade Burger Sauce Recipe

There is definitely a difference between a regular burger and a fantastic burger. It's not the meat, or whether it was made on a charcoal or gas grill. Let me tell you- the secret to an amazing burger is the sauce.

We all start off with some simple ketchup and mustard, but perhaps it's time you upgrade your burger style! This easy burger sauce is exactly what you need in your life (and on your burgers).

🥘 Burger Sauce Ingredients

This tasty sauce uses a mixture of some very common household items! In fact, I bet you already have most, if not all, of them at home!

Tall image showing burger sauce ingredients.
  • Mayonnaise - ¾ cup of mayonnaise. I recommend using a high-quality brand like Duke's or Hellman's.
  • Sweet Pickles - 3 tablespoons of finely chopped sweet pickles or relish.
  • Yellow Mustard - 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard. Feel free to swap this out for any of your favorite varieties of smooth mustard.
  • Pickle Juice - 2 teaspoons of pickle juice.
  • Sugar - 2 teaspoons of sugar.
  • White Wine Vinegar - ½ teaspoon of white wine vinegar.
  • Paprika - ½ teaspoon of paprika.
  • Onion Powder - ½ teaspoon of onion powder.
  • Garlic Powder - ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder.
  • Salt - ¼ teaspoon of salt.

🔪 How To Make Burger Sauce

Nothing is easier than just mixing together some ingredients! You might as well keep a batch of burger sauce on hand at all times (just in case!) All you'll need is a mixing bowl, your measuring utensils, and a silicone spatula to stir it all together!

This recipe will make a little more than ¾ cup of sauce, which is perfect for 4-5 burgers!

Process image 2 showing ingredients combined in a glass bowl.
  1. In a small bowl, add ¾ cup of mayonnaise, 3 tablespoons of chopped pickles, 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard, 2 teaspoons of both pickle juice and sugar, ½ teaspoon each of white wine vinegar, paprika, and onion powder, and ¼ teaspoon of both garlic powder and salt.
  2. Mix until all of the ingredients are well combined.
  3. Use immediately or store for later.

This tasty sauce will quickly become one of your favorite burger toppings! I won't even judge you if you use it as a sauce for other sandwiches (because you definitely should). Enjoy!

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • This recipe makes a little more than ¾ cup of sauce, which is enough for 4-5 burgers (depending on how much you add).
  • I always recommend using a high-quality brand of mayonnaise like Duke's or Hellman's! If you don't have my faves on hand, try to make sure that you use a whole egg may brand.
  • My favorite way to use this sauce is to spread it on the bottom bun as well as the patty!

🥡 Storing

Keep your burger sauce in a sealed container in the refrigerator. It is good for the same shelf life as the mayonnaise that you used.

❓ Recipe FAQs

Does Burger Sauce Go On Top Or Bottom?

The answer to that is simple- yes. Yes, it goes on the top and, yes, it goes on the bottom. You can put it on one or the other, or you can put it on both! You are the master of your own burger combination!

How Long Can You Keep Homemade Burger Sauce?

You should base this on the expiration date of the mayonnaise that you used in your sauce. Make sure to keep it stored in a sealed container in the fridge!

Does Burger Sauce Have To Be Refrigerated?

Since this sauce has a mayonnaise base, it definitely must be refrigerated! You don't want to keep it at room temperature or it will spoil.
