🔪 How To Make Air Fryer Shrimp

It truly doesn't get any easier than this air fryer shrimp recipe. All you need is your air fryer and some tongs!

How many shrimp are in a serving depends on how you plan to use them. If they are incorporated into another recipe or paired with hearty side dishes, they go a lot further. Shrimp only, 1 pound is about 4 servings.

  1. Preheat your air fryer. Lightly coat the basket of your air fryer with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil (or olive oil) and preheat your air fryer to 400°F (205°C).
  2. Put shrimp in the basket. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in the preheated air fryer basket.
  3. Air fry and flip. Cook at 400°F (205°C) for about 3-4 minutes, then open the basket and use tongs to flip the shrimp over.
  4. Finish cooking. Close the air fryer and cook for another 4-5 minutes. Check the shrimp to see if they are cooked fully. If not, return them to the air fryer and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  5. Cool and season. Carefully remove the shrimp from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Season to taste with 1 teaspoon of sea salt and serve with 2-4 lemon wedges and/or cocktail sauce if desired.

This easy air fryer shrimp pairs wonderfully with anything from sauteed green beans to teriyaki noodles. In fact, I have a whole page dedicated to what to serve with shrimp! Enjoy!

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • Always use spray cooking oil or a pastry brush to coat your air fryer basket. Aerosolized non-stick cooking spray can damage the interior coating of your air fryer basket.
  • Frozen shrimp can be used and cooked directly from frozen (see recipe) or thawed and follow these instructions.
  • Try not to crowd the basket because air needs to be able to circulate around each shrimp to ensure they cook evenly. It is best to cook your shrimp in a single layer with space between each shrimp.
  • The cooking times are approximate and can vary a little bit based on the model of your air fryer.

🥡 Storing & Reheating

Keep leftover cooked shrimp in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Reheating Air Fryer Shrimp

Preheat your air fryer to 300°F (149°C)  and arrange the already cooked shrimp in a single layer. Cook for 2 minutes, flip, and then another 1-2 minutes on the opposite side.

❓ Recipe FAQs

How Do I Know When Shrimp Is Done In The Air Fryer?

After about 7 minutes, I recommend pulling out the basket and checking your shrimp. If it is opaque and pink throughout, it's ready. Otherwise, continue cooking them for a couple of minutes longer.

Can I Freeze Cooked Shrimp?

You can definitely freeze shrimp that has been cooked! If you want to prevent them from sticking together, first freeze them on a baking sheet. Transfer the shrimp to a freezer bag once they are frozen and keep them frozen for up to 6 months.

Can You Air Fry Shrimp With The Shell On?

Sure, if you prefer you can remove the shell after cooking. It may add a minute or two to the total cook time but it is perfectly safe and actually helps keep the shrimp moist and juicy! This is just a personal preference, though.
