My tasty slow cooker candied yams are the easy, sweet side dish you didn't know you were missing in your life. They can be made in your crockpot, with or without marshmallows as a topping. Plus, this simple dish is equally suited to weekday dinners as it is to Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday feasts.

Instructions
Open your 40 oz canned yams and drain out the liquid. Cut any large yams into smaller pieces, if desired. Melt your ¼ cup butter in the microwave in short 20-second increments.
Add all of the ingredients besides the marshmallows to your slow cooker (yams, melted butter, ¼ cup light brown sugar, 1 tablespoon molasses, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves, and 1 pinch salt). Mix gently.
Cook on high for 1-2 hours or on low for 2-3 hours.
At the end of the cooking time, add the 1 ½ cups mini marshmallows (if using) and heat for 15 more minutes. Then set the slow cooker to warm (*see note) and serve.
Notes
It's easiest to serve your candied yams from the crockpot. Keep them on the warm setting for up to 2-3 hours. Stir and add water as needed if the syrup is getting too thick or drying out.
