Instructions
Place a saucepan over medium heat and stir together 1 cup ketchup, ½ cup honey, ¼ cup apple cider vinegar, and ¼ cup molasses until smooth.
Add 2 teaspoons liquid smoke, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon ground black pepper, ½ teaspoon paprika, ¼ teaspoon chili powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper and stir until well combined.
Turn the heat down to low and simmer the sauce until it thickens up (about 15 minutes).
Once thickened, remove the sauce from the heat and let it cool completely before using or storing for later.
Notes
A good honey BBQ sauce should balance the sweetness of the honey with the tanginess of ingredients like vinegar or tomatoes. Too much sweetness can be overpowering, and not enough can leave your sauce tasting flat.
Depending on your preference, adding a bit of heat can elevate your sauce. Use ingredients like cayenne pepper, chili powder, or hot sauce to give your BBQ sauce a kick. Remember to start with a small amount and gradually add more until you reach your desired level of spiciness.
Different kinds of honey, vinegar, and other ingredients can have different levels of sweetness, acidity, and flavor, so it's important to taste your sauce as you make it and adjust the ingredients as needed.
This sweet bbq sauce can be used for all kinds of things! Try it out on wings, pizza, grilled meat, and more!
To store: Let your sauce cool completely before using or storing it. Once cool, place your honey bbq sauce into a sealed jar or container and keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
