🥘 Plum Cobbler Ingredients, Notes, & Substitutions
In addition to your typical household baking ingredients, make sure you have some fresh plums! You'll want them to be perfectly ripe and juicy.

- Lemon (optional) - The zest and juice from 1 large lemon for an extra pop of flavor.
- Sugar - ¾ cup of sugar for making the batter as well as an additional 2 tablespoons of mixing with the sliced plums.
- Flour - 1 cup of all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled.
- Baking Powder - 2 teaspoons of baking powder.
- Salt - A pinch of salt.
- Milk - ¾ cup of milk. You can use your preferred kind.

🔪 How To Make Plum Cobbler
If you've never made a cobbler before, it is actually surprisingly simple! All you are going to need is your preferred baking dish, a couple of mixing bowls, and your measuring utensils!
This cobbler is enough for 8 servings, so the entire family can enjoy it!
Prepare
Step 1: Prepare. Preheat your oven to 325°F (162°C/Gas Mark 3) and then add ¼ cup (57 grams) of butter to your pie pan (or baking dish), making sure to coat all of the sides.
Step 2: Mix the fruit. In a small bowl, combine 2 cups (330 grams) of sliced plums, 2 tablespoons (25 grams) of sugar, and the optional zest and juice from 1 large lemon.
Step 3: Mix the batter. In a separate bowl, mix together 1 cup (125 grams) of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons (8 grams) of baking powder, ¾ cup of sugar (150 grams), and 1 pinch of salt. Then, pour in ¾ cup (177 milliliters) of milk and 2 teaspoons (10 milliliters) of vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
Layer & Bake
Step 4: Layer. Pour the batter into your butter-coated dish, and then add the fruit on top (but do not stir it).
Step 5: Bake. Transfer the pan to the oven and bake for one hour at 325°F (162°C/Gas Mark 3) or until golden brown in color.
Step 6: Serve. Remove the baked cobbler from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.
🍴 What To Serve With Plum Cobbler
Everyone knows that cobbler's best friend is a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream! Go ahead and add a dollop of homemade whipped cream or chantilly cream, too!
Of course, it also tastes amazing all by itself! Enjoy!
💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Notes
- You can make this recipe using a deep pie pan, a 9x9 baking dish, or a 10-inch springform pan.
- You can get 2 cups of sliced plums from about 6-8 medium-sized plums.
- Your plum cobbler will bubble while baking. If you are worried about it spilling out of your baking dish, you can place the dish on top of a rimmed baking sheet.
🥄 Make Ahead Options
You can completely prepare your plum cobbler and then freeze it for later if you want to make it in advance! Simply let your cobbler cool completely and then tightly wrap it with plastic wrap, followed by a layer of aluminum foil.
It is best when enjoyed within 3-4 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before eating or reheating.
🥡 Storing & Reheating
If you have any leftovers, cover your plum cobbler tightly (either with a lid or plastic wrap) and keep it stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
Reheating Plum Cobbler
You can reheat individual portions of your cobbler by using small bursts in the microwave.
For larger portions (or the entire batch if it was frozen), place the entire baking dish back into the oven at 325°F (162°C/Gas Mark 3) until warmed all the way through. If you are worried about it over-browning, you can cover it with some aluminum foil.

❓ Recipe FAQs
I highly recommend using fresh plums for the absolute best results, but you can use frozen plums if you are in a pinch! However, you do need to let them thaw completely and properly drain off any excess liquids so that they don't make the cobbler too runny.
Sure! You can enjoy this cobbler with only plums, or use a combination of fruits! Peaches and/or berries would complement the flavor of the plums wonderfully!
The peel of plums is already very thin and adds a pop of extra flavor and beautiful color to your cobbler! Save yourself the extra effort by leaving the peel on.
