Crescent roll mummy dogs are always a hit with kids around Halloween because they are fun, festive, and totally tasty. They are as simple as wrapping hotdogs with strips of refrigerated crescent roll dough and baking. Finish them off with some cute candy eyes once baked, and serve them with your favorite condiments.

These mummy hotdogs are a crowd-favorite appetizer, lunch, or snack for the Halloween season. Kids love to help wrap up their dogs with strips of crescent roll dough and add the fun candy eyes at the end.

Grab your favorite hot dogs, some crescent rolls, and get the whole family in the kitchen to help decorate their mummies. They are great for parties, too.

🥘 Ingredients

  • Crescent Rolls - Grab your favorite brand of canned crescent roll dough.
  • American Cheese - I used slices of American cheese but you could easily mix it up with different cheese varieties.
  • Hot Dogs - Get a package of your favorite type of hotdogs.
  • Candy Eyes - Candy eyes can be found next to the sprinkles.
  • Condiments - Ketchup, mustard, etc.

Be sure to see the free printable recipe card below for ingredients, exact amounts & instructions with tips!

🔪 How To Make Mummy Dogs

These mummy dogs are the perfect opportunity to let your creativity shine. All you need is a knife, baking sheet, and cutting board.

This makes 10 mummy dogs. Nutritional information is calculated for 1 dog per person, but we often eat 2.

Assemble the Mummy Dogs

Step 1: Preheat. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C/Gas Mark 5).

Step 2: Roll out crescent rolls. Pull out 8 ounces of crescent roll dough (1 can). If using pre-scored crescent rolls, roll them out and tear them at the perforation (making 4 rectangles). If using a sheet of crescent rolls, unroll it and cut it into 4 rectangles.

Step 3: Cut the dough. With kitchen shears or a knife, cut each of the rectangles of dough into 10 thin strips. You should have 40 strips of dough.

Step 4: Slice the cheese. Cut the 2½ cheese slices into quarters (and the last half slice into two halves).

Step 5: Wrap the hotdogs. Stack a slice of cheese on top of each of the 10 hot dogs. Then, wrap them up with the thin dough strips, crisscrossing to look like a wrapped mummy. The dough can be stretched slightly to cover the entire hotdog.

Step 6: Leave an opening for eyes. Leave space between the dough bandages to add a face or eyes to your mummy, if desired. (*See note).

Bake

Step 7: Spray with cooking spray. Place the mummy hotdogs cheese-side-down on an ungreased baking sheet and spray the dough lightly with cooking spray.

Step 8: Bake. Bake at 375°F (190°C/Gas Mark 5) for 13-17 minutes, or until the dough is golden-brown. Remove from heat, add candy eyes, and serve with your favorite condiments.

♨️ Air Fryer Instructions

Step 1: Preheat. Preheat the air fryer to 325°F (160°C).

Step 2: Air fry. Cook for 6 to 7 minutes or until the tops of the crescents are lightly browned.

Step 3: Flip. Using tongs, flip each crescent dog and continue cooking for an additional 2 to 3 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Step 4: Repeat. Take them out of the air fryer and repeat the process with the rest of the crescent dogs. Add candy eyes to finish your mummies.

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • Skip the eyes. If candy eyes are not an option, make your faces with ketchup and/or mustard.
  • Try out some miniature mummies. You can make a mini-version by using Lil'smokies if desired.
  • Don't melt the candy. Add candy eyes after baking, or they will melt in the oven.

⭐ Testimonials

Super easy to make and absolutely adorable, the kids loved them—especially the candy eyeballs. Perfect for adding some spooky fun to our Halloween party! ~ Chelsea in T.X.

🥡 Storing & Reheating

Place leftover mummy dogs in a sealed airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or the freezer for up to 6 months.

Reheating

No need to thaw frozen mummies. Simply bake at 350°F (175°C/Gas Mark 4) until hot, usually 4-5 minutes for refrigerated mummies and 20-25 minutes from frozen.

Alternatively, you can heat them in the air fryer at the same temperature until warm, about 5-6 minutes.
