🆚 Pizza In The Air Fryer vs The Oven

There are a few differences between cooking frozen pizza in the oven vs cooking it in the air fryer.

The first, and most notable, the difference is size. You cannot cook a full-sized frozen pizza in the air fryer. You can use it to heat up individual leftover slices from a full-sized pizza, though!

If time is a concern, you are better off using the air fryer. You don't have to wait for it to preheat like a conventional oven. And it cooks frozen personal pizzas in nearly half the time as the oven without making them soggy like the microwave!

The oven relies on high heat for cooking pizza and this can sometimes dry it out the top, leaving the bottom of the pizza soft or soggy. The air fryer makes up for the lower temperature by circulating the air. This leads to a crispy crust and perfectly cooked pizza all the way around!

🥘 Air Fryer Frozen Pizza Ingredients

All you really need is the pizza! A little Parmesan and dipping sauce will just make it better!

  • Frozen Pizza - 1 whole frozen pizza (personal, French bread, singles, or mini frozen pizza).
  • Parmesan (optional) - Grated, for serving.
  • Dipping Sauce (optional) -  Your favorite pizza dipping sauce for serving.

🔪 How To Make Air Fryer Frozen Pizza

This recipe couldn't get any easier! All you need is an air fryer, a silicon spatula, and a pizza cutter!

These directions are for making 1 personal pizza. It's quick though, so you can make more pizzas by working in batches!

Process image 1 showing getting the frozen pizzas out of the box.
Process image 2 showing putting the frozen pizza on a small pizza pan.
Process image 3 showing the frozen pizza in the air fryer basket before cooking.
  1. Prep the pizza. Remove 1 whole frozen pizza(s) from the packaging and keep the insert if it has a metallicized cooking sheet.
  2. Cover with foil. Place in the center of your air fryer basket or rack(s). Use a square of aluminum foil (fold it in half as needed to fit into your air fryer) over the pizza to prevent it from burning.
  3. Cook. Air fry at 380°F (195°C) for 5-6 minutes covered with aluminum foil. Then remove the square of aluminum foil and continue air frying an additional 2-3 minutes or until your pizza is fully heated and crisped.
  4. Add time (optional). Add an extra minute or two for deep dish and french bread pizzas.
  5. Check pizza. Mini pizzas may be fully cooked after 5-6 minutes, check and remove the aluminum foil after 4 minutes of cooking.
  6. Cool and enjoy. Remove your pizza from the air fryer when done using a spatula. Allow the pizza to cool slightly while you grab your favorite dipping sauce and shake some grated Parmesan cheese onto it!

Serve your pizza with a side of pizza aioli or homemade ranch. Marinara would be delicious as well. Enjoy!

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • Air fry your pizza or pizzas on the enclosed crisping sheet(s) if it came with one.
  • Always cook from frozen, there's no need to thaw your frozen pizzas before air frying them.
  • Larger pizzas could take 12-13 minutes to cook. Check your pizza after 5-6 minutes and add time before removing the foil if it is still frozen.
  • When cooking additional pizzas, the cooking time will be slightly shorter as the air fryer will be fully preheated.
  • To store: If you don't finish your pizza, you can keep it in a Ziploc bag or airtight container in the fridge. Enjoy it within 2-3 days. *You should not refreeze frozen pizza once cooked.
  • To reheat: The best way to reheat leftovers is in the air fryer! Pop the pizza in your air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 4-5 minutes.

❓ What Is The Best Brand Of Frozen Pizza For The Air Fryer?

These directions will work for most brands of frozen personal-sized pizza! The best brands for the air fryer are:

  • DiGiorno
  • Celeste
  • Ellio's
  • California Pizza Kitchen
  • Red Baron
  • Tony's

The following brands also make personal pizzas that can be cooked in the air fryer:

Jeno's, Lean Cuisine, Newman's Own, Organics, Sam's Choice, Signature Select, Stouffer's, Tombstone, Totino's, Urban Pie, Wegman's, Whole foods, and more.

❓ Why Did My Frozen Pizza Burn?

There are a number of reasons why your pizza may burn. If your air fryer was already hot ( or preheated) you may need to reduce the cooking time. A very small pizza will take less time to cook, so if you're cooking a mini pizza be sure to reduce the time. It could also be your air fryer. If you know your air fryer runs hot, try reducing the heat to 360°F (180°C). Also, make sure you are covering the pizza with foil as directed in the instructions or your toppings may burn.

❓ Can I Add Toppings To Frozen Pizza?

Sure! You can always top them with extra cheese or any of your favorite toppings before cooking. If you don't put more cheese over the toppings, they may fall off, though.

I refreeze leftover cooked pizza all the time. In fact, it comes out better than the first cook.
