🥘 Sugar Cookie Cherry Cobbler Ingredients

There are only 2 ingredients in this quick and easy cobbler! If you have some extra time, try making my homemade cherry pie filling for an even more delicious taste (but canned cherry filling works too)!

Tall image showing the ingredients.
  • Cherry Pie Filling - 63 ounces of cherry pie filling (3 21-ounce cans).
  • Sugar Cookie Dough (prepared) - 16.5-ounce package of sugar cookie dough. You can also use my favorite classic sugar cookie recipe, either reducing the recipe by half or baking what you don't need after topping your cobbler! 🙂
  • Almond Extract (optional) - ½ teaspoon of almond extract for extra flavor.

*Be sure to see the free printable recipe card below for ingredients, exact amounts & instructions with tips!*

🔪 How To Make Sugar Cookie Cherry Cobbler

With only 5 minutes of prep time, this recipe is as easy as it gets! All you will need is a 9x13 baking dish and a silicone spatula set.

This recipe will make 12 servings of cobbler. There is plenty to share with the whole family, especially if you add some ice cream on top!

  1. Preheat. To get started, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Add cherries. Pour your 63 ounces of cherry pie filling into a 9x13 baking dish and mix with the optional ½ teaspoon almond extract if desired.
  3. Cover with cookie dough. Open the package of prepared 16.5 ounces of sugar cookie dough and crumble it over top of the cherry pie filling. Make sure to cover all of the pie filling in an even, thick layer.
  4. Bake. If desired, sprinkle some apple pie spice over the sugar cookie dough (*see note). Place the baking dish into the oven and bake it at 350°F (175°C), uncovered, for about 40-45 minutes, or until the cookie dough has become a golden-brown color and the juices from the pie filling are bubbling (*see note).
  5. Serve. Once the cobbler is done baking, remove it from the oven and serve warm.

This cookie cherry cobbler is delicious on its own. However, it would be great with a drizzle of vanilla icing, homemade whipped cream, and a scoop of ice cream. Enjoy!

💭 Angela's Tips & Recipe Notes

  • Check out my post for all of the best tips and tricks to making your canned cherry pie filling taste better!
  • Your dough could be golden-brown in color, but still be under-cooked. Use a toothpick to check by inserting it into the cobble. It should come out almost completely clean, although some of the cherry pie filling will still cling to it.
  • If you find that your sugar cookie dough has browned, but it is still not done cooking, go ahead and cover the baking dish with a sheet of aluminum foil and continue to bake for another 5 minutes.

🥡 Storing & Reheating

Place your leftovers into an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to 4-5 days.

To store your leftovers longer, place the sugar cookie cherry cobbler into a shallow freezer storage container in a single layer. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before serving.

Reheating Sugar Cookie Cherry Cobbler

Place single servings into microwave-safe dishes, then heat in your microwave in short 30-second increments until warmed through.

Yes, you can freeze this cherry cobbler in an airtight container. Thaw overnight in the fridge and serve within 3 months of freezing.

Not quite (but it's much simpler)! This recipe has fewer steps, a quicker prep time, and a shorter ingredient list.
