🔪 How To Make A Nutella Mug Cake
It doesn't get much more simple than this. All you need is a coffee mug and a fork! Of course, this mug cake is only for 1 serving.
Step 1: Combine ingredients. In an oversized mug or mixing bowl, combine the ingredients except for the flour (¼ cup (75 grams) of Nutella, 3 tablespoons (44 milliliters) of milk, and ¼ teaspoon (1 gram) of baking powder), stir to combine.
Step 2: Add flour. Add ¼ cup (31.25 grams) of all-purpose flour and mix thoroughly.
Step 3: Bake. Microwave it on high for 1-2 minutes (checking for doneness after 1 minute). A toothpick entered into the center of the mug cake should come out clean; if not, microwave in short 20-second increments until done.
Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream completes this simple dessert perfectly. If you are a milk drinker, it is also delicious with a glass of milk! Enjoy!
💭 Tips & Notes
- Prevent Spills: Always place a paper towel beneath your mug in the microwave. This simple step catches any spills or overflow, keeping your microwave clean.
- Manage Expansion: Remember, the mug cake will grow as it cooks. To avoid overflow, fill your mug only halfway with batter or pause the microwave if you notice the cake rising above the rim.
- Choose the Right Mug: For even cooking, select a mug with straight sides rather than a tapered design. This shape helps the cake cook uniformly throughout.
- Adjust for Your Microwave: Be aware that cooking times can vary with different microwaves. Start with the recommended time and adjust in short increments as needed for your specific appliance.
🥡 Storing
If you don't eat all of your Nutella mug cake or you made it for later, cover it and pop it in the fridge for up to 2-3 days. They are delicious cold, so no need to reheat!

❓ Recipe FAQs
If your mug cake didn't rise during the cooking process, you most likely either didn't properly measure your baking powder or it is expired. When baking powder isn't fresh anymore, it won't be as effective.
Sure! If you don't have a microwave, you can easily make your mug cake in the oven. Use an oven-safe mug and bake it at 350°F (175°C/Gas Mark 4) for 20-25 minutes.
Cooking time will vary based on the make and model of your microwave. If you overcook your cake, it could become chewy. Instead, begin with the minimum cooking time and then add more time, if needed, using small increments.

Nutella Mug Cake
Ingredients
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ cup Nutella
- 3 tablespoon Milk (milk of your choice)
Instructions
- In an oversized mug or mixing bowl combine ingredients except for the flour, stir to combine.
- Add the all-purpose flour and then mix well.

Notes
- Place a paper towel under your mug in the microwave to catch any spills or overflow.
- This mug cake will expand while cooking. To prevent overflow, use a mug that is only half-full when the batter is combined and/or pause the heating cycle once you see the cake expand above the rim of your mug.
- A mug that is not tapered (smaller at the bottom and larger at the top) will cook more evenly.
- Cooking time may vary slightly depending on the make and model of your microwave.
- A pinch of salt, an ⅛th teaspoon of sugar, or a ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract can be added to the batter to suit your tastes.

I love Nutella so this recipe was my dream.

YUM! Made this vegan by using chocolate soom tahini (3 Tbsp) + Apple sauce (1 Tbsp) instead of the nutella amount.
After it cooked, we added some chopped strawberries and little sprinkle of mini chocolate chips.
Thank you!
