In this guide, I will cover how many mini, standard, and jumbo chocolate chips fit into one cup. That way you can easily break down your measurements from a typical 12-ounce bag of chocolate chips!

Standard Chocolate Chips
Most chocolate chip packages at the grocery store contain 12 ounces of chocolate chips. So when you come across recipes that call for a certain amount of cups of chocolate chips, how many bags should you buy? Let me break it down for you!
To weigh out chocolate chips, I used a kitchen scale to measure exactly one cup. One cup of standard chips weighs 6 ounces, so a 12-ounce bag would have two cups! *It is important to note that this is a dry measurement based on weight, not volume.
Breaking it down further, there are approximately 311 standard individual chocolate chip pieces in one cup. Keep in mind that different brands produce a variance in the number of individual pieces.

Three Ways To Measure Chocolate Chips
You can measure chocolate chips by weight, volume, or count.
To weigh your chocolate chips, simply use a kitchen scale. It is best practice to use grams when measuring weight on a scale, or you will have to convert ounces using fractions. 1 ounce is approximately equal to 28 grams. This method will give you the most precise measurement over volume and count.
When measuring for volume, measuring cups or measuring spoons are used to calculate the amount of space an ingredient takes up. This method is less accurate than using a scale. Two ingredients may have the same volume, but they will have different weights.
Lastly, you can measure chocolate chips by counting each individual piece. Keep in mind the size of chocolate chips vary between each brand of chocolate chips.

If your chocolate chip bag is open, place it in an airtight storage bag and store it at room temperature for 2-4 months. Ideally, chocolate chips should not be refrigerated as they can absorb odors. Moisture will also cause discoloration on the chips.
You may freeze chocolate chips in a freezer-safe container for up to 18 months.
