I use sweet potatoes as a staple for side dishes on my family's dinner table. I rotate through a lot of recipes (obviously) but my three main starches are potato, sweet potato, and white rice.
Combining a staple ingredient with my go-to kitchen gadget equals tasty food every time, so I knew this recipe would be gold. Play with the seasoning and make the recipe your own, but this basic version is 100% satisfying.
🥘 Ingredients
- Sweet Potatoes - Use 3 large or 3-4 medium sweet potatoes.
- Cooking Oil - I prefer to use coconut oil or beef tallow.
- Seasoning - Start with a generous amount of paprika (or smoked paprika), plus earthy garlic powder, then add salt to taste.

🔪 How To Make Sweet Potato Cubes In The Air Fryer
Grab your air fryer, cutting board, and knife to get this family-favorite side dish started. A few minutes of prep and cooking, then you'll see why this is a staple at my dinner table.
This recipe yields approximately 4 servings, depending on your portions. It's also super easy to scale up or down as needed to feed a few or a crowd.
Preheat & Prep
Preheat. Set your air fryer to 400°F (205°C) to preheat for a few minutes.
Peel and slice. Peel 2 pounds (907.18 grams) of sweet potatoes if desired and cut them into ½-inch cubes, then place into a large mixing bowl.
Toss and season. Add 2 tablespoons of your preferred cooking oil, 1 teaspoon of paprika, ¾ teaspoon of garlic powder, and ½ teaspoon of salt (or more, to taste). Mix thoroughly until all pieces of sweet potato are coated.
Air Fry Until Crisp
Transfer. Arrange the potatoes in a single layer in the basket of your air fryer.
Air fry until crisped. Cook for 10 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes. Make sure the cubes are in a single layer after shaking, then return to your air fryer to finish cooking.
Serve. Check the sweet potato cubes using a fork. They should be crisp on the outside, and soft and tender on the inside. Serve immediately.

💠Angela's Pro Tips & Notes
- To peel or not to peel. The skin of potatoes can be left on if desired (that’s how I usually cook them).
- Protect your air fryer's non-stick coating. Pick your preferred cooking oil, just remember not to spray your air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray.
- Allow space for even cooking. Make sure your potatoes are in a single layer in the basket, and not too crowded. You can cook these in batches if necessary.
- Timing of batches. If you don’t preheat your air fryer, the cooking time might be closer to 15 minutes for the first batch. Consecutive batches cook quicker than the first. Keep a close eye on the potatoes, every air fryer is different and you don’t want them overdone.
- Serve 'em while hot. These sweet potato cubes taste best if eaten immediately.
🥡 Storing & Reheating
Store in a shallow airtight container in the fridge for up to 4-5 days.
Freezing
To freeze cooked sweet potatoes spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze for 2 hours then transfer them into a freezer storage bag or airtight container. Freeze for up to 8-9 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.
Reheating
The best way to reheat these cubed sweet potatoes is to return them to your air fryer and arrange the leftovers in a single layer. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes until hot and crispy again.
Alternatively, you can reheat portions in your microwave heating in 30-second increments on high power until heated to your satisfaction.
