🥘 Ingredients
Grab your eggs and set up an ice bath afterward. This hard-boiled eggs recipe is as straightforward as it gets!
- Eggs - 6 large eggs, preferably at room temperature.
- Water - Enough water to submerge your eggs in after they have finished cooking.
- Ice - You'll want to add 1-2 handfuls of ice to water to create an ice water bath for the cooked eggs.

🔪 How To Cook Hard-Boiled Eggs In The Air Fryer
You're never going to have to wait for water to boil to make eggs again. All you'll need is your air fryer, a bowl, and some tongs to transfer the hot eggs.
This recipe will make 6 large air fryer eggs, but you can cook as many as you like. I can usually fit a dozen into a single layer in my air fryer basket. Work in batches if needed.
Step 1: Preheat. Preheat your air fryer to 250°F (120°C).
Step 2: Place eggs into the air fryer basket. Arrange 6 eggs (300 grams) in the basket of your air fryer, keeping them in a single layer.
Step 3: Cook. Set your timer for 13 minutes for soft-boiled eggs or 17 minutes for hard-boiled eggs (or even up to 18 minutes) and let them cook. *See the cooking times chart below.
Step 4: Prepare the ice bath. When the time is almost up, pour 2 cups (475 milliliters) of water (or enough to submerge your eggs) into a bowl and add a couple of handfuls of ice.
Step 5: Transfer. When the eggs are done cooking, use tongs to carefully transfer them to a bowl of cold water.
Step 6: Cool. Let your eggs cool in the water for about 5-10 minutes (or until cool enough to handle). *I usually refresh the cold water if it warms.
Step 7: Peel. Peel your eggs and serve immediately, or store them in the refrigerator for later. *I break the entire shell up, then peel under a lukewarm trickle of water in the sink.

🍴 How To Use Hard-Boiled Eggs
Eat your hard-boiled eggs with creamy yolks by themselves as a snack or on-the-go meal, sprinkled with a little salt, or use them in some of your favorite recipes. They make quick work out of weekly meal prep for a protein-packed meal plan, too.
They taste fantastic as deviled eggs finished with a sprinkle of paprika or everything bagel seasoning. I've also made a couple of new deviled egg flavors this Easter - jalapeno popper deviled eggs and avocado deviled eggs.
Or make egg salad for a satisfying egg salad sandwich, slice and serve on a turkey chef salad, add more great flavor to classic potato salad, or add to a fresh garden salad or wedge salad. Enjoy!
💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes
- All air fryers have different wattages and can differ in how long it takes to cook your eggs to your desired level of doneness (like microwaves). If this is your first time, I recommend only cooking a couple of eggs and checking to see if you need to increase the cooking time. See my handy air fryer cooking times table below.
- Use room-temperature eggs to help prevent cracking during cooking. To warm quickly, place the eggs into a bowl of lukewarm water while you wait for the air fryer to preheat. *This is my go-to for hassle-free air fryer eggs, and I highly recommend not skipping this quick step (then reuse the same bowl for your ice water).
- You can cook up to a dozen eggs at once, as long as they are all in a single layer in your air fryer. It is recommended to leave a ½-inch spacing between the eggs for best results.
- The shell of your eggs may have some raised bumps when they are done cooking. Don't worry about this, as it is just from the hot air. The inside is still cooked perfectly fine.
- Placing your eggs into an ice bath helps to stop the cooking process immediately and makes them easier to peel.
- If using different-sized eggs, your cooking time may vary slightly.
- Standard store-bought eggs vs organic cage-free eggs vs farm fresh eggs. I have cooked all types of eggs and did not need to change my cooking times (unless the size was different than a large egg at 57 grams total weight with the shell). However, the normal store-bought eggs were the easiest to peel.
Table 1: Air Fryer Cook Times
Time | Result |
---|---|
12 minutes | Very soft-boiled eggs |
13 minutes | Soft-boiled eggs |
14 minutes | Creamy medium-boiled eggs |
15 minutes | Medium boiled eggs |
16 minutes | Medium-hard boiled eggs |
17 minutes | Creamy hard-boiled eggs |
18 minutes | Firm hard-boiled eggs |
It is important to note that these times may vary based on the wattage and type of air fryer that you have. Therefore, you can use this table as a rough guideline for how long you want to cook your eggs and adjust them as necessary.
The cooking time may need to be adjusted when the air fryer basket is full and the air does not circulate as easily. Additionally, consecutive batches will cook just a bit quicker than the initial batch.
🥡 Storing
You can store your hard-boiled eggs, either peeled or unpeeled. If they still have the shell, they can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
If they have been peeled, keep them submerged in water (changing the water daily) or in a sealed container with damp paper towels over them for 1 week.
❓ Recipe FAQs
Eggs cooked in an air fryer have a similar texture to traditionally boiled eggs. The key difference is in the ease of cooking and peeling. Air frying creates evenly cooked eggs with firm whites and creamy yolks, and they tend to be easier to peel. *See notes in the post for standard vs organic vs farm fresh eggs.
Yes, you can cook up to a dozen eggs in the air fryer as long as they are placed in a single layer. It's important to avoid overcrowding to ensure even cooking.
Preheating the air fryer is recommended for this recipe. It helps to start the cooking process immediately and ensures consistent results.
Many air fryer models, like a Ninja dualzone, do not have a heat setting as low as 250°F (121°C). If this is the case, lower the cooking time and test your first couple of eggs. Start with ten minutes, test one of the eggs, and add a minute or two as needed to finish cooking the eggs. I've tested several batches and found that 12-14 minutes will work great for most eggs and air fryers.
