🔪 How To Make Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
Cooking up perfectly tender and fluffy baked potatoes in the air fryer is incredibly easy and practically hands-off! To begin, you will need an air fryer (basket style), a mixing bowl, and silicone kitchen tongs.
This easy recipe will make 4 servings! You can easily scale up if you work in batches, but make sure not to overcrowd your air fryer basket for the best results.
- Prep. Wash and dry the 4 medium potatoes, then pierce them several times with a fork or knife. Rub each potato with 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). Sprinkle with a generous amount of Kosher or sea salt, about 1 teaspoon.
- Cook. Place the potatoes into the basket of your air fryer and cook for 35 minutes at 400°F (205°C). Flip the potatoes and continue air frying for an additional 5-10 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender.
- Remove & serve. When the potatoes have reached your desired level of tenderness, use tongs to remove them to plates. Serve immediately.
These tasty spuds are the perfect side dish to accompany your favorite protein like chicken, steak, pork, or fish! You can also load them up with butter, cheese, sour cream, BBQ sauce, and some pulled pork to serve as a main course. Enjoy!
💭 Angela's Tips & Recipe Notes
- It's up to you if you want to preheat your air fryer. However, it's unnecessary for most air fryer recipes.
- Poking the potatoes allows the steam to escape while cooking and helps your potatoes to cook quickly and evenly.
- Make sure that you don't overcrowd your air fryer basket. It's important to leave enough space between the potatoes so that they cook evenly at the same time.
- Your potatoes are done when an inserted fork or knife is easily inserted into the middle of the potatoes.
- Convection-oven style air fryers should be set to 375°F (190°C). Cook the potatoes for the same amount of time, flipping them at the halfway point in the cooking time
🥡 Storing & Reheating
Place fully cooled leftover baked potatoes into a shallow airtight storage container or wrap them with aluminum foil. Refrigerate for up to 4-5 days.
Wrap your cooled baked potatoes in plastic cling film, then a layer of heavy-duty aluminum foil, and place in a freezer storage bag. Potatoes freeze well for up to 2-3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge or reheat from frozen.
Reheating Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
It's usually best to reheat your baked potatoes using the same cooking method. Leftover baked potatoes can be reheated in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) until warmed to your liking. Or see my complete tips on reheating baked potatoes here.

❓ Recipe FAQs
The cooking time depends on the size of your potatoes and the model of the air fryer you are using. It will take around 35-45 minutes at 400°F (205°C) to cook medium-sized potatoes until they are tender and the skins are crispy.
No! The air fryer cooks the potatoes evenly, so there's no need to wrap them in aluminum foil! All you have to do is wash and dry your potatoes, poke holes in them, brush them with olive oil, and sprinkle on some salt before the air fryer takes over.
Great question! Technically you can use any type of potato. For the best results, I recommend using russet potatoes! Not only are they the most common to use for baked potatoes, but they also have a fluffy texture, a higher starch content, and a lower moisture content than other potatoes, making them the best potato for baked potatoes!
