🥘 Microwave Corn On The Cob Ingredients

The short list of ingredients is one of the many reasons to love this recipe! You can add your favorite corn seasonings, though I love to keep it simple with just salt, pepper, and butter!

    • Corn - 2-3 shucked ears of corn. *See notes below if you prefer to leave the husk on.
    • Water - 2-3 tablespoons of water to steam the corn.
    • Butter - 1 ½ tablespoons of butter for 3 ears of corn, or ½ tablespoon per corn cob. You can also use a butter substitute.
    • Salt & Pepper - ¼ teaspoon each of salt & pepper. Use more or less to taste.

🔪 How To Make Microwave Corn On The Cob

When it comes to cooking corn, it doesn't get much easier than this! To get started, you'll need some measuring spoons, a microwave-safe bowl, and of course, your microwave.

This recipe is for 2-3 ears of corn. You can make as many as will fit in your bowl, but you will want to use more butter and seasoning at the end!

Process image showing corn on the cob in glass bowl in the microwave.
    1. Prep. Shuck 2-3 ears of corn if you haven't already, and place them in a microwave-safe bowl with a lid.
    2. Add water. Add 2-3 tablespoons of water to the bowl and place the lid (or a microwave-safe plate or plastic wrap) over the top.
    3. Microwave. Microwave for 5-6 minutes or until the kernels reach your desired level of tenderness.
    4. Add butter and serve. Divide 1½ tablespoons of butter equally amongst the corn cobs and season with ¼ teaspoon of salt & pepper, or to taste. Serve right away.

This quick and easy corn on the cob is the perfect side dish for any of my summer BBQ grilling recipes! It's equally tasty with a juicy T-bone steak or baked chicken tenderloins, too! Enjoy!

    💭 Angela's Tips & Recipe Notes

    • 2-3 ears of corn take 5-6 minutes in the microwave. Add another 1-2 minutes of cook time for each additional ear of corn after that.
    • If you prefer to leave the husk on, you can place the corn directly in the microwave without water and microwave for 7-8 minutes for 3 ears of corn (about 4 minutes for 1 corn cob).
    • If you don't have a microwave-safe bowl, simply wrap the shucked corn cobs with a damp paper towel. Microwave for 6-7 minutes for 3 ears of corn (between 3-5 minutes for 1 corn cob).

    🥡 Storing & Reheating

Your extra corn cobs can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

Reheating Microwave Corn On The Cob

Reheat in the microwave in 30-second increments until warmed to your satisfaction.

    ❓ FAQ

Should I Leave The Husk On When Microwaving Corn On The Cob?

You don't need to leave the husk on as long as you add some water and put the corn cobs into an enclosed, microwave-safe container so they can steam. If you'd rather leave the husk on, the husk acts as its own steamer basket. It provides enough moisture to cook the corn without any additional water.

How Long Does It Take To Microwave Corn On The Cob?

This depends on how many ears of corn you are cooking and how tender you like it. In general, 1 corn cob takes 3-5 minutes, and you should add 1-2 minutes for each additional corn cob.

Can I Freeze Cooked Corn On The Cob?

You can! Once it has cooled, transfer the corn cobs to a Ziploc freezer bag and remove any excess air. Freeze for up to 4 months, and there's no need to thaw the corn before reheating!
