My homemade guacamole seasoning is a flavorful combination of chili powder, cumin, paprika, and more that has been tweaked until perfect. The balance of earthy, warm spices is just right when combined with the cool flavor of avocados. I've also included my favorite optional ingredients to adjust the heat to your liking!

I love to make my own seasoning blends, and this easy guacamole spice mix is no exception. It's so much better than store-bought, and I can control exactly what's in it.
This is my go-to mix of flavorful pantry staple spices that combine to make the best DIY seasoning mix. Grab some fresh avocados - this will take your guacamole game to the next level of deliciousness!
🥘 Ingredients
- Chili Powder - The base of this seasoning blend that can be swapped for chipotle chile powder or cayenne pepper (see notes below) or use one of my chili powder substitutes.
- Ground Cumin - One of my favorite spices to include in this blend.
- Paprika - Another of my favorites. You can use paprika or smoked paprika.
- Garlic Powder & Onion Powder - Base flavors that add depth of flavor and make many amazing seasoning blends taste better.
- Salt - Brings out all of the amazing flavors in your guacamole. Start with a little, then season to taste.
- Dried Cilantro, Crushed Red Pepper Flakes, and Oregano - These are all optional additions to your base spice blend. Use any or all of them.
- Lime Juice (optional) - Add when mixing guacamole to brighten the flavor and extend the freshness of your dip.

🔪 How To Make DIY Guacamole Seasoning
Elevate your taco night by whipping up this simple spice blend. Grab measuring spoons, a bowl, and either 2 cups of avocado or an airtight storage jar.
This seasoning blend yields 1â…ž teaspoons for each single batch.
Mix The Seasoning Blend
Combine base ingredients. Add ½ teaspoon chili powder, ¼ teaspoon each ground cumin, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder, and ⅛ teaspoon salt in a small bowl.
Pick additional flavors. Optional ingredients â…› teaspoon dried cilantro, 1 pinch red pepper flakes, and/or 1 pinch oregano can also be added in at this time.
Stir and use or store. Mix until well combined and use immediately or store for later.
Combine With Avocado
Combine to make guacamole. When combined with mashed avocados and an optional 1 splash of lime juice, mix until the seasoning is evenly distributed.
Chill and serve. Cover your bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to marry.
💠Angela's Pro Tips & Notes
- Chili powder alternatives. Swap the chili powder for ¼ teaspoon chipotle chili powder or ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper if desired.
- How much seasoning to use per batch of guacamole. Combine one portion (1â…ž teaspoon serving) of homemade guacamole seasoning mix per 2 cups (approximately 2 large ripe avocados). Season with salt to taste.
- Servings when combined. Yields approximately 2 cups of guacamole dip.
- Chilling recommendations. It is best if chilled and served within 2-3 hours of mixing. The lime juice will help the guacamole store for longer.

- Stir in some of my fresh pico de gallo for an easy upgrade to any guacamole recipe.
- Add 1 cup each of canned, drained corn, black beans, and chopped tomatoes for black bean and corn guacamole.
- Mix in 1 cup each of fresh tropical fruit (papaya, mango, pineapple) and chopped tomatoes for the ultimate summer chip dip.

Guacamole Seasoning Mix
Ingredients
- ½ teaspoon chili powder (see notes)

Instructions
Mix The Seasoning Blend
- Combine base ingredients: ½ teaspoon chili powder, ¼ teaspoon ground cumin, ¼ teaspoon paprika, ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon onion powder, ⅛ teaspoon salt, and optional ingredients ⅛ teaspoon dried cilantro, 1 pinch red pepper flakes, and/or 1 pinch oregano.
- Mix until well combined and use immediately or store for later.
