Rounding up this list of fruits that start with U was undoubtedly tricky. There weren't any commonly known fruits, as they all are unique and different!
I'm so excited to get started trying all of these! I don't even know where to begin!
1. Ube
Ube, also known as purple yam, is a tropical tuber with a vibrant violet color. Although it is technically a vegetable, many people call it a fruit!
With a sweet and earthy flavor, ube is a versatile ingredient in various cuisines and can be used in both sweet and savory dishes. Popular in Filipino desserts and snacks, this colorful root vegetable can be transformed into delicious treats like ube halaya and ube-filled pastries.
2. Ububese
You might not be familiar with the ububese fruit, but it goes by other names like the African custard apple or the dwarf custard apple. Like custard apples from South and Central America, the ububese fruit stands out with its smoother surface, sporting large greenish-yellow scales instead of pronounced bumps.
On the inside, you'll find fibrous flesh similar to custard, offering a sweet, yellow treat enjoyed fresh or in local desserts.
3. Udara

Fruits That Start With U: 20+ Fruits To Try Today!
Ingredients
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 4 teaspoon ube flavoring extract
- 1 tablespoon ube powder
Instructions
- Line the bottom of a 9x5 loaf pan with parchment paper, then put it in the freezer while you make your ice cream mixture.
- In a large chilled bowl, mix together 14 oz sweetened condensed milk, 4 teaspoon ube flavoring extract, and 1 tablespoon ube powder.
- Next, add 2 cups heavy cream to a mixing bowl or the bowl of your stand mixer and whip it on medium-high speed until it forms stiff peaks.
- Once your whipped cream is ready, gently fold it into the condensed milk. (If adding any mix-ins, now is the time).
- Pour the ice cream mixture into your lined loaf pan, then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap. Freeze it for at least 4 hours before serving.
Notes
- Chilling the condensed milk and whipped heavy cream in the fridge before making your ice cream will help it set faster.Â
- Add a pinch of sea salt to offset the sweetness if desired.Â
- You can still use this simple recipe in an ice cream maker if you have one. Just let the ice cream mixture sit in the fridge until it is completely chilled before you pour it in. Then, you turn it on and let it mix until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
- You can add any of your favorite ice cream mix-ins; this is just a base recipe.
- Keep your homemade ice cream in an airtight container in the freeze and enjoy it within three months.
