This chocolate icing for donuts is rich, indulgent, and goes perfectly on top of some fresh, homemade baked doughnuts! It is the perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth or chocolate craving. This recipe only requires 2 ingredients, so it can't get any easier!
Add both your chocolate chips and coconut oil into a microwave-safe bowl.
1 cup chocolate chips, 1 teaspoon coconut oil
Microwave on medium-power in 20-30 second increments, making sure to stir in between each heating (*see note).
Double Boiler Method
Add the chocolate chips and coconut oil into a heat-safe bowl.
1 cup chocolate chips, 1 teaspoon coconut oil
In a saucepan, add about 1 inch of water and place the bowl containing the chocolate chips and oil over top.
Simmer the water, stirring the chocolate constantly while it melts.
Once the chocolate is almost completely melted (tiny pieces are still remaining), remove the bowl from the heat and continue to stir until smooth.
Chocolate Dipping Donuts
Dip your baked and cooled doughnuts top side down into the icing. Then, lift the donut away, allowing the excess icing to fall off.
Turn the donuts upright and place them onto a wire rack so that the icing can set (*see note).
Notes
You can use your microwave on high power, but medium power is preferred to help prevent burning your chocolate.
Place a piece of parchment paper or wax paper underneath the wire rack to catch any icing that continues to drip from the donuts while they set.
To store: Place any leftover icing into an airtight container. Leave it at room temperature for up to 4 days. Lay a piece of plastic wrap atop the icing (touching) inside of the container to prevent a skin from forming.
