🔪 How To Make Oreo Dump Cake

This delicious, decadent Oreo dump cake is incredibly easy to make and only requires 10 minutes of prep work! Take out some measuring cups, a silicone spatula set, and a 9X13 baking dish to get started.

1 9X13 pan of Oreo dump cake will yield roughly 15 servings. There is plenty for everyone to enjoy a slice (or two)!

  1. Prep. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9X13 baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Assemble. Spread a single layer of 20 Oreo cookies across the bottom of the baking dish (between 20-24 Oreos). Pour the 14 ounces of sweetened condensed milk over the top of the cookies evenly. Then use a spatula to spread the 8 ounces of Cool Whip across the top of the condensed milk.
  3. Assemble. Sprinkle your 1 box of chocolate cake mix in an even layer over the Cool Whip. Use a fork to rake out and break up any lumps.
  4. Add butter. Cut the ¾ cup of butter into 1 tablespoon slices, or smaller, and place them across the top of the cake mix, covering as much surface area as possible. Do not mix.
  5. Bake and serve. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes. Remove from the oven when done and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Optional Icing Drizzle

  1. Mix. In a small mixing bowl add ½ cup of confectioner's sugar and ½ tablespoon of milk. Add the optional splash of vanilla extract and/or pinch of salt if desired. Mix until it reaches a drizzle consistency. *You can add more milk slowly to thin it out if needed.
  2. Drizzle and serve. Drizzle over the top after your cake once it is baked and cooled, or when serving.

Serve a warm slice of Oreo dump cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, cookies-n-cream ice cream, or mint chocolate chip ice cream! A dollop of homemade whipped cream would be tasty too. Enjoy!

💭 Angela's Tips & Recipe Notes

  • If you prefer less sugar, try using sugar-free Oreos. Evaporated milk may also be used in place of condensed milk, but it will not caramelize as well. Sugar-Free Cool Whip and/or cake mix may also be used.
  • If you are not a fan of chocolate, this is also delicious with golden Oreos and a white or yellow cake mix. Mint chocolate Oreos also make an amazingly tasty dump cake.
  • Use a large serving spoon to scoop and serve individual portions rather than slicing.

🥡 Storing & Reheating

This Oreo dump cake is best eaten fresh but can be covered and kept at room temperature for 1-3 days. It can be refrigerated for longer storage, though it tends to harden at colder temperatures.

Portion your dump cake into individual pieces and place them in a freezer-safe container. Defrost in the fridge overnight and enjoy within 3 months.

Reheating Oreo Dump Cake

Reheat individual portions in short 30-second intervals in the microwave until warmed to your satisfaction.

❓ Recipe FAQs

Can I Use Any Type Of Oreo For This Dump Cake?

Absolutely! If you'd like to switch up the recipe, you can easily swap out the classic chocolate Oreo for golden Oreos with a yellow cake mix! It would also be delicious to use mint Oreos too!

Why Is This Dessert Called A Dump Cake?

Dump cakes are named this because the ingredients are literally dumped into layers into one pan without mixing! In this case, the Oreos start off as the first layer, then condensed milk and Cool Whip are poured over the top. The chocolate cake mix is spread evenly and then topped with butter sliced. Dump cakes are similar to cobblers, but with a cake-like topping.

Is It Better To Serve My Oreo Dump Cake Warm Or Cold?

It is best to serve your Oreo dump cake warm so that the Oreos don't become hard. You are able to store any leftovers at room temperature for 1-3 days, but you can refrigerate them if you'd prefer.
