Everyone loves bacon, but the thought of making a mess of your kitchen while you dodge hot, splattering grease is often reason enough to skip it in the mornings. Well, not anymore!

If you've been wondering how to microwave bacon, you've come to the right place. This easy method makes perfectly crispy bacon every time, and you don't have to worry about cleanup!

🥘 Ingredients

All you need is bacon. That's it!

  • Bacon - 8 strips of raw bacon. Cooking times vary slightly depending on thickness (*see note).
  • Paper Towels - They are not an ingredient but are needed in the recipe.

*Be sure to see the recipe card below for ingredients, amounts & instructions!*

🔪 How To Make Microwave Bacon

With little to no prep time and almost no cleanup, it doesn't get any easier! You might never make bacon on the stovetop again!

  1. Prep. Line a microwave-safe plate with 2 paper towels.
  2. Arrange bacon. Lay 4 strips of bacon on the paper towels with room between them. Then add 2 more paper towels on top.
  3. Cook. Microwave on high for 4-6 minutes or until crispy (*see note).
  4. Repeat. Remove your cooked bacon from the microwave carefully (the plate will be super hot) and set aside. Repeat steps 1-3 with the remaining 4 strips of bacon.

If you prefer not to use the microwave, try air fryer bacon!

💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Recipe Notes

  • Microwave Cooking Time: For normal bacon, microwave for 4-6 minutes, depending on the strength of your microwave. For thick-cut bacon, like the one I used, aim for 5-7 minutes. Placing a double layer of paper towels beneath the bacon can be beneficial.
  • Turkey Bacon Alternative: This recipe is also suitable for turkey bacon, which cooks faster. Begin with 2 minutes on high and increase the cooking time by 1-minute increments.
  • No Paper Towels? No Problem: If you're out of paper towels, use a microwave-safe bowl placed over a microwave-safe plate. Drape the bacon over the bowl to cook. The grease will drip down into the plate, keeping your bacon crispy.
  • Storing and Reheating: Store any leftover bacon in a storage bag or Tupperware in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. To reheat, microwave for 30-45 seconds, depending on the amount of bacon.

Instructions

  • Line a microwave-safe plate with 2 paper towels.
  • Lay 4 strips of bacon on the paper towels with room between them. Then add 2 more paper towels on top.
  • Microwave on high until crispy, about 4-6 minutes.
  • Remove the bacon from the microwave (be careful. the plate will be very hot) and repeat steps 1-3 with the remaining 4 strips of bacon.

Notes

  • Normal bacon ranges between 4-6 minutes, depending on microwave strength.
Thick-cut bacon (like what I used) ranges from 5-to 7 minutes and can benefit from a double layer of paper towels beneath the bacon.
  • This recipe will work with turkey bacon but turkey bacon cooks faster. Start with 2 minutes on high and increase the duration 1 minute at a time if needed.
  • If you are out of paper towels, place a microwave-safe bowl over a microwave-safe plate. Drape your bacon over the top of the bowl and cook as directed. All of the grease will run down the bowl and get caught by the plate, and your bacon will still be wonderfully crispy.
  • The bacon is not crisped the moment it comes out of the microwave, allow it one minute to cool and crisp up before serving.
