How many grams in an ounce pin with vignette and text title overlay.

You may have wondered about the number of grams in an ounce if you aren't familiar with metric measurements. If you're cooking or baking and need this conversion, I have the answer as well as more easy ways to remember how many grams are in an ounce!

How Many Grams Are In An Ounce?

There are 28 grams (28.346 grams if you want to get technical) in an ounce. Unfortunately, metric conversions don't come easily to everyone.

What do you do when you find a recipe you want to make but the ingredients are measured in grams? Or vice versa?

No need to panic. You don't need to do any tough math equations to convert your recipe from ounces to grams because I've laid it out in some easy-to-understand ways. I also made a helpful conversion chart below!

Why Measure In Grams?

Measuring in grams is particularly more useful when baking as it is a more precise measurement than ounces. A good example would be the way you can fit more flour into a cup if you pack it in, but the weight will always be a set amount.

For that reason, many bakers choose to measure ingredients this way, regardless of their location. Give it a try the next time you whip up some chocolate chip cookies!

Ounces To Grams Conversions

The actual conversion is: 1 ounce (oz) is the equivalent of 28.34952 grams (g).

No one is really expected to whip out a calculator while cooking. Instead, consult the conversion chart below when you need to know how many grams you need of an ingredient.

How Many Grams Are In โ…› Of An Ounce?

Because it is such a small measurement, people often wonder how many grams are in an โ…› of an ounce. This is not a common amount used in cooking or baking so it did not make the chart, but the correct answer is 3.5 grams.

How Many Grams In A Pound?

I've added a few pound equivalencies to the grams to ounces chart above, so you can see that the 16 ounce measurement (or 1 pound) is also 454 grams.

How To Measure In Grams

If you need to measure an ingredient in grams, you will need a food or kitchen scale. Turn the scale on, tare it (0 it out) before you place the ingredient on the scale.

Once the scale says 0, place your ingredient on top and add to it or remove some until you reach the desired weight in grams.

Below is a chart of common recipe quantities in grams converted to ounces.
