🔪 How To Make Beef with Garlic Sauce
- Prepare the Beef. In a large bowl, place the thinly sliced flank steak. Sprinkle with ½ tablespoon of cornstarch, toss until the beef is lightly coated, and set aside.
- Cook Garlic and Mushrooms. Heat a wok, large skillet, or non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Once hot, add 1 tablespoon of garlic and the sliced mushrooms. Stir frequently and cook for approximately 1-2 minutes or until the garlic is golden and fragrant.
- Add Beef and Seasonings. Introduce the thinly sliced beef to the pan. Cook over medium-high heat until the beef is about halfway done. Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, and ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper. Stir well to coat the beef and continue cooking until the meat is completely browned.
- Serve. Once cooked, remove from heat and serve immediately. This dish pairs well with rice or fried noodles and can be garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds for added flavor and presentation.

💠Angela's Pro Tips & Notes
- Slicing the Beef: For tender cooked portions, slice the flank steak or top sirloin thinly against the grain. This method ensures that the beef remains tender and easy to chew after cooking.
- Substituting Shaoxing Wine: If you don't have Shaoxing wine, you can use rice wine as a substitute. However, note that rice wine will give a lighter flavor compared to the deep, rich taste of Shaoxing wine, which adds to the bold flavor of the dish. (see Shaoxing wine substitutes here)
- Marinating Time: Allow the beef to marinate for at least 30 minutes for the flavors to infuse. If you have more time, you can also leave it in the fridge overnight for enhanced flavor.
- Customizing with Sesame Seeds: Feel free to use black, white, or a combination of both sesame seeds for garnishing. Black sesame seeds alone can also create a visually appealing contrast.
- Storing Leftovers: Store any leftover beef with garlic sauce in a shallow, airtight container in the fridge. It will remain fresh and tasty for 3-4 days.
