This Starbucks caffe mocha with mocha sauce copycat recipe is perfect for anyone who loves chocolate and coffee! The homemade mocha sauce tastes even better than the bottled version! Mix it with some frothed milk and espresso for a delicious drink and save yourself a trip to Starbucks!
Combine the ½ cup strong brewed coffee, ½ cup sugar, ½ cup dark cocoa powder, and ⅛ teaspoon salt in a medium saucepan. Stir and bring to a low simmer at medium heat.

Stir frequently while heating and simmer for 10 minutes once the sugar has completely dissolved.
Remove from heat and add ½ tablespoon vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly and allow the mocha sauce to cool completely before storing or using it in drinks.

Make the Starbucks Caffe Mocha
Brew 1 shot espresso. Pour the espresso and the 3 tablespoon mocha sauce into your mug, then gently stir to combine them.

You can froth milk using a whisk once it’s heated to 140°F (60°C). Use a whisk to double the volume, start whisking with the whisk at the base of your bowl or container. Whisk until the milk doubles in volume then whisk just below the froth.
Alternatively, a hand blender (immersion blender) can also be used in a pinch. Be careful of the milk overflowing as it’s hot!
Of course, a handheld milk frother is also a great choice if you don't have an espresso machine.
This recipe will make ½-⅔ cups of mocha sauce. You will only need 3 tablespoons for 1 serving of coffee, so save the rest for later!
