🔪 How To Make Grilled Mahi Mahi
This recipe is so simple, just season your fish and pop it on the grill. The only things you need for this recipe are your BBQ grill, a mixing bowl, and a basting brush.
This recipe is for 3 fillets of fish, but go ahead and buy as much fish as you need and adjust your seasoning accordingly.
- Preheat. To get started, preheat your grill to medium-high heat (375-450°F / 191-232°C).
- Combine spices. In a small bowl, combine ½ teaspoon each of salt, garlic powder, and onion powder, as well as ¼ teaspoon each of pepper and paprika.
- Season fish. Next, brush the 3, 4-ounce mahi mahi fillets with 1 tablespoon of olive oil on both sides. Then, season generously, making sure to get all sides of the fish.
- Grill. Grill your fish for 4-5 minutes per side, until it has a nice golden color.
- Serve. Once cooked, remove the mahi mahi from the grill and serve immediately with a lemon wedge.
💭 Angela's Pro Tips & Notes
- To keep your fish from sticking to the grill, it is important to brush your mahi mahi with oil. Also, wait until the fish naturally releases from the grill instead of trying to turn it too early.
- Fresh mahi mahi is the best option, but if you can't find it, then frozen fillets work too! Just make sure to let them thaw out in the fridge first.
- To store: Place your fish into an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
- To freeze: Make sure your cooked fish has fully cooled, and then place it in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months.
- To reheat: Reheat your fish by heating it over medium heat in a skillet or by placing it in a 350°F (175°C) oven until heated thoroughly.
❓ Recipe FAQs
There are two easy ways to tell if your fish is done cooking. First, the color of your mahi mahi should be opaque. Secondly, it should flake easily with a fork! If it is resistant to flaking, it isn't done cooking yet!

Mahi mahi is a fantastic fish for grilling! The firm texture of the meat helps to keep it together so it won't fall apart while it's on the grill.
