This Big Mac burger recipe features all of the wonderful flavors of McDonald's popular burger that you can make in the comfort of your home! In less than 30 minutes, you'll have a juicy double patty burger with a delicious tangy sauce. They're so easy to make, plus it's the perfect way to satisfy your fast food cravings!
Place your cast iron skillet (or heavy-bottomed pan) on the stove over medium-high heat.
In a large mixing bowl, mix together your ground beef, salt, and ground black pepper. Form 10 thin hamburger patties.
1 ½ lb ground chuck, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
Cook the burger patties for 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until the juices from the meat begin to run clear.
Prepare your hamburger buns by spreading the softened butter on the cut sides of each bun. Place your buns in the cast iron skillet and toast them until they start to brown.
7 ½ hamburger buns, 1 tablespoon butter
Start building your burgers with the bottom slice of the bun. Spread the big mac sauce on the bun, add onions, lettuce, a slice of cheese, a hamburger patty, and the middle bun. Spread big mac sauce on the hamburger patty, add onion, lettuce, 2-3 pickle slices, the second hamburger patty, and the top bun.
¼ cup Big Mac Sauce, 1 tablespoon minced onion, ½ cup iceberg lettuce, 5 slices American cheese, 15 dill pickle slices
Serve with your favorite burger sides.
Notes
For the best McDonalds's style onions, rehydrate 1 tablespoon of dried minced onions in ½ cup of boiling water. Allow to sit for 2-3 minutes then drain and assemble your Big Mac.
You could replace the dill pickle slices with dill or sweet relish if you'd like.
Customize this burger with your favorite burger toppings like tomato slices or bacon.
For that true 'steamed bun' texture you get from the McDonalds' wrapped burgers, heat your burger in the microwave on high power for 10-15 seconds.
1 ½ pounds ground chuck = 24 ounces. Big Mac patties are 1.6 ounces each so there should technically be 15 patties made with this portion of beef. (but I like the slightly larger 2.4-ounce patties best).
To store: Place the burger patties and toppings in separate air-tight containers or Ziploc storage bags in the refrigerator. Enjoy within 4-5 days.
To freeze: Freeze your cooked burger patties by placing a piece of parchment paper between them so they don't stick together. Store the patties in a freezer-safe storage bag or airtight freezer container for up to 4 months. Thaw the patties in the refrigerator overnight before heating.
To reheat: Sprinkle some water over the top of a hamburger patty and microwave for 1 minute, or heated through to your liking. To reheat more patties at a time, place them in a baking dish in a single layer and add ¼ cup of water to the bottom. Cover the top of the baking dish with aluminum foil. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Your hamburger patties need to reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
