Instructions
Rinse and clean shrimp as needed then pat them dry.
In a mixing bowl, combine the hot pepper sauce, melted butter, garlic, ground cayenne pepper, and optional salt & pepper. Set aside.
Heat extra virgin olive oil in a large frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil begins to shimmer and is just starting to smoke, add the shrimp.
Fry for 2-3 minutes until no longer opaque, the shrimp have curled, and turned pink in color. Remove from the skillet or frying pan with a slotted spoon and transfer into a bowl to toss with the sauce.
Toss the shrimp until well coated with sauce and serve immediately.
Notes
6 ounces is equal to ¾ cup of hot pepper sauce. I like to use Frank’s Original red hot sauce!
If you are using frozen shrimp, make sure that they are completely thawed before cooking.
In place of the cayenne pepper and a pinch of salt & pepper, you can use a Creole seasoning or Old Bay.
You can adjust the intensity of the hot sauce by using less than the amount required if desired.
To store: Once your buffalo shrimp is completely cooled off, place your leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. Enjoy within 3-4 days.
To freeze: If you'd like to freeze your leftover shrimp, store them in a freezer-safe container and freeze them for up to 4 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.
To reheat: Heat the shrimp over medium-low to medium heat on the stovetop with a little bit of butter or olive oil so that they don't overcook. Cook until they are warmed through to your liking or at least 5-7 minutes.
