Instructions
In a large skillet melt the butter over medium heat until it begins to bubble. Add the cleaned and sliced mushrooms then saute for 3 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and saute for an additional 30 seconds, then stir in the broth to deglaze the skillet (scraping any bits on the bottom of the skillet). Stir and add the remaining ingredients: heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a low simmer and reduce the heat as needed to maintain a slow simmer for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once the sauce has thickened to a creamy sauce that clings to your spatula remove it from the heat.
Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed, then serve immediately over your steak(s).
Notes
Clean mushrooms using a damp towel rather than running them under water.
Cut your mushrooms into thick slices to prevent overcooking while sauteing and simmering.
You can garnish the mushrooms with chopped parsley, chopped chives, dill, or thyme leaves if you'd like.
To give this mushroom sauce a kick, you can add ¼ teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes.
To store: Pour your leftover mushroom sauce into an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
To reheat: Reheat your mushroom sauce in a saucepan on the stovetop over medium heat until warmed through to your liking. Make sure to not overcook or your mushrooms will shrink down and become tough.
