🥘 Ingredients For Blue Cheese Steak Sauce

I recommend buying blue cheese and crumbling it yourself, rather than buying pre-crumbled cheese. Just choose your favorite variety and then you're good to go!

    • Buttermilk - 2-3 tablespoons of buttermilk.
    • Sour Cream - 2-3 tablespoons of sour cream or Greek yogurt.
    • Lemon Juice - 1 teaspoon of lemon juice.
    • Worcestershire Sauce - ½ teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce.
    • Blue Cheese - 3-4 ounces of blue cheese, crumbled. You can reserve some to use as a garnish if you like.
    • Garlic - 1 teaspoon of finely minced garlic.
    • Salt & Pepper - ¼ teaspoon of both salt and pepper, to taste.
    • Parsley (optional) - Some fresh parsley to use as a garnish.

🔪 How To Make Blue Cheese Steak Sauce

Leave the oven and stovetop off for this extra simple recipe! All you'll need to begin is a mixing bowl, your measuring spoons, and a silicone spatula!

This recipe will make about ½ cup of steak sauce.

    1. Combine ingredients. In a medium-sized mixing bowl combine 2-3 tablespoons of both buttermilk and sour cream, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and ½ teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients (3-4 ounces of blue cheese, 1 teaspoon of garlic, ¼ teaspoon of salt, and ¼ teaspoon of pepper) and stir until evenly distributed.
    2. Chill. Cover with plastic cling film and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill before serving. The flavors will meld best if refrigerated overnight.
    3. Serve. Serve with additional crumbled blue cheese and/or parsley as garnish.

This blue cheese steak sauce pairs perfectly with any steak you like! Try it with a grilled T-bone or a pan-seared hanger steak! Enjoy!

    ❓ FAQ

What Is The Best Kind Of Blue Cheese To Use For Blue Cheese Steak Sauce?

You can use your favorite kind! For a milder flavor, choose gorgonzola or Danish blue. If you want a sauce that is more pungent, use a sharper blue cheese like Roquefort.

Does Blue Cheese Steak Sauce Need To Be Refrigerated?

Yep! You'll want to keep this sauce in the refrigerator since it contains perishable ingredients such as buttermilk and sour cream. Simply pop it in a Tupperware and save it for when you want it!

What Is Blue Cheese Made Out Of?

There are many varieties of blue cheese. They are made from cow's milk, sheep's milk, or goat's milk. The cheese is ripened using cultures from the mold Penicillium, which is what causes the blue-green colored veins that run through the cheese!
